Summary: To elucidate the mechanism of EPO-mediated regulation of erythropoiesis, the grass carp EPO gene (GcEPO) was cloned and characterized. The tissue distribution data showed that GcEPO was widely expressed in detected tissues, with the highest expression level in the heart and followed in the liver. Ischemia models upregulated both mRNA and protein expression of GcEPO and modulated downstream signaling pathways. This suggests that GcEPO plays a paramount role in erythropoiesis through modulating the mentioned signaling pathways.

Summary: Innovative theranostic nanosystems utilizing gold nanoparticles have the potential to make drug-resistant micro-tumors visible to clinicians through multimodal imaging and combination therapy. A highly specific hybrid theranostic agent was developed in this study, which is activated only in the presence of stimuli at the target site. This system demonstrated high specificity and promising results for multimodal imaging and dual treatment of micro-tumors.

Summary: In this study, multifunctional upconversion nanoparticles (UCNs) were designed to emit high-energy light by absorbing low-energy near-infrared (NIR) light with excellent tissue permeability. The optimized synthesis procedure produced lanthanide-doped UCNs with uniform size and improved photoluminescence efficiency. Surface-modified UCNs showed enhanced singlet oxygen generation and improved aqueous solubility and photoluminescence efficiency.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the expression of PD-L1 in ovarian cancer and its association with prognosis. Results showed that approximately 47.8% of ovarian cancer samples had high PD-L1 expression. Although the expression of PD-L1 was not associated with prognosis, the expression of TILs in ovarian cancer tissues was significantly associated with high PD-L1 expression. Furthermore, high PD-L1 expression was correlated with the expression of stem cells expressing CD44 and LGR5.

Summary: Current treatment strategies for TNBC include conventional chemotherapy, immunotherapy, or a combination of both. Different drugs are used depending on the stage of the disease, with anthracyclines, alkylating agents, antimicrotubule agents, and antimetabolites being commonly used for early-stage TNBC, and antimetabolites, non-taxane microtubule inhibitors, and cross-linker platinums for late-stage TNBC. Newer options such as PARP inhibitors and immune checkpoint inhibitors have emerged for advanced TNBC cases where surgery is not an option. This review focuses on hypoxia-inspired treatment strategies for TNBC and provides an overview of ongoing clinical trials.

Summary: The extracellular matrixes and microenvironmental signals regulate intercellular pathways and play an important role in osteogenesis. Circular RNA, a newly identified RNA, has been found to contribute to the osteogenesis process by regulating gene expression at various levels. Dysregulation of circRNAs has been observed in tumors and diseases, and their expression is changed during osteogenic differentiation. Understanding the role of circRNAs in osteogenesis can have implications for the diagnosis and treatment of bone diseases.

Summary: This study computationally investigated the adsorption of penicillamine (PCA) drug molecule onto Al- and Ga-doped B12N12 nanoclusters in different environments. The results showed that the PCA molecule interacts effectively with the doped clusters through its nucleophilic sites and forms stable adsorption complexes. The adsorption of PCA molecule decreases the HOMO-LUMO gaps and increases the reactivity of the doped clusters, suggesting an improved drug delivery capacity.

Summary: In recent years, there has been considerable interest in finding new drug-delivery materials. This study conducted a systematic investigation of the interaction between metformin and the surface of pristine B12N12 and group I metals (Li, Na, and K) encapsulation nanoclusters based on DFT calculations. The presence of alkali metals remarkably increased the absorption energy of MF-B12N12, and the addition of alkali metals led to a decrease in Egap and an increase in reactivity.

Summary: Epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) is a process in which epithelial cells acquire mesenchymal cell characteristics, allowing metastatic cells to migrate and invade. Recent studies have shown a connection between the EMT process and Wnt/ll-catenin signaling in cancer. Upregulation of the Wnt/ll-catenin pathway leads to EMT, while non-coding RNAs, including miRNAs and lncRNAs, are involved in regulating this pathway.

Summary: Emerging data have identified the critical role of long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) in biological processes, including epigenetics, transcription, and protein translation regulation. A novel lncRNA, LINC00857, has been found to be upregulated in various cancers and is functionally involved in modulating cancer-related behaviors such as invasion, migration, proliferation, epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), cell cycle, and apoptosis. The importance of LINC00857 in cancer initiation and progression suggests its potential as a novel prognostic/diagnostic biomarker and therapeutic target.
