Summary: Two CuZnAl hydrotalcite derived materials with different Cu content exhibit different catalytic performances in the liquid phase hydrogenation of nitrocyclohexane, showing high selectivity for cyclohexanone and high efficiency in production of cyclohexylamine. The activation methods led to the formation of distinct catalyst structures, with lower Cu loading catalyst forming CuZn alloys and higher Cu loading catalyst forming Cu-ZnO core-shell structure. The interpretation of catalytic results was supported by physicochemical characterization of CuZnAl using various techniques.
