Summary: COVID-19 patients have elevated serum levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines, which contribute to complications and high mortality rates. The administration of metronidazole (MTZ) has been found to reduce pro-inflammatory cytokines and improve outcomes for inflammatory disorders. This study aims to identify anti-cytokine therapeutics for COVID-19 patients with cytokine storms.

Summary: This study presents a simple and efficient method for synthesizing benzothiazoles, which avoids the use of hazardous chemicals and provides an alternative procedure. The use of K2S2O8 as an oxidant allows for the synthesis of benzothiazoles in good to excellent yields.

Ultrasonic technology as a non-thermal approach for processing of fruit and vegetable juices: a review

Summary: By inducing thermal and chemical changes, ultrasonic technology can refine fruit and vegetable juices. This review focuses on the recent successful applications of ultrasound in juice processing, as ultrasonic operation and its effect on juice are distinct. Recent advancements in ultrasonic operations and their impact on fruit and vegetable juice processing were comprehensively reviewed. Key advantages of this method include preservation of essential components and elimination of pulp accumulation in juices. However, it still falls short of fully inactivating bacteria and enzymes, requiring gentler heat treatments.

Summary: In this study, nanofibrous scaffolds were prepared using polyurethane as a mat scaffold. Curcumin was incorporated as an antibacterial component using the electrospinning technique. The scaffolds showed biocompatibility, cell attachment and the ability to stop bacterial activities. The PU/Curcumin scaffold has great potential for wound healing applications.

Association between dietary fatty acid patterns and obesity indices in Jordanian adults: A cross-sectional study

Summary: The study aimed to detect the dietary fatty acid patterns among Jordanian adults and their relationships with obesity indices. The results revealed that the pattern of high fatty acids from protein and olive oil sources was negatively associated with obesity indices, while the low EPA and DHA pattern was positively associated. This association was sex-specific.

Effect of ultrasound-enhanced bee venom on selected post inguinal hernioplasty complications: a single-blind randomized controlled trial

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the impact of bee venom phonophoresis on pain, inflammation, and mobility in patients following inguinal hernioplasty. The results showed that the bee venom phonophoresis group had significant improvements in pain, inflammation, and hip mobility compared to the control group.

Summary: This study estimated the mean sodium and potassium intake in a Moroccan population and examined their association with blood pressure. The results showed that sodium intake exceeded the WHO recommendation while potassium intake was below the recommendation.

Evaluation of shoulder pain, disability, mobility, and quality of life in patients with adhesive capsulitis following suprascapular nerve block combined with low-intensity laser therapy

Summary: The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of combining suprascapular nerve block and low-power laser therapy on pain intensity, mobility, disability, and quality of life in patients with adhesive capsulitis. The results showed that both low-power laser therapy and suprascapular nerve block have beneficial effects in the treatment of adhesive capsulitis, and the combination of both modalities is more effective. Therefore, it is recommended to use this combination therapy in pain management of musculoskeletal disorders, particularly adhesive capsulitis.
