The study evaluated the psychometric properties of the Persian version of the delivery fear scale (DFS) among Iranian women, confirming its validity and reliability through confirmatory factor analysis, internal consistency, and reliability assessment.
Background The aim of the present study was to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Persian version of delivery fear scale (DFS) among Iranian women population. Methods This is a methodological study that was conducted to evaluate the psychometric properties of DFS. Convenience sampling was used to select 200 pregnant women from the maternity ward of Razi Hospital in Ahvaz, Iran. In the first step, the scale was translated into Persian using backward-forward translation method. Afterwards, the following types of validity were examined: face validity based on impact score, construct validity based on confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), and concurrent validity. The Pearson correlation test was used to determine the correlation of DFS with pregnancy-related anxiety questionnaire (PRAQ), Childbirth Attitude Questionnaire (CAQ), Spielberger's state-trait anxiety inventory (STAI), and the short form of Lowe's childbirth self-efficacy inventory. Reliability of DFS was assessed by determining internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha) and split-half method. Results CFA had satisfactory validity considering x(2) forward slash df < 5 and the RMSEA < 0.08. /the obtained Cronbach's alpha coefficient was 0.77. The split-half coefficient of the questionnaire was 0.83, indicating an acceptable reliability for the questionnaire. The results showed that DFS had a direct significant correlation with the CAQ (r = 0.72), PRAQ (r = 0.74), STAI-Y1 (r = 0.71) and STAI-Y1 (r = 0.63) and a reverse significant correlation with subscales of the short form of Lowe's childbirth self-efficacy inventory including outcome expectancy (r= -0.75) and self-efficacy expectancy (r= -0.76). Conclusions The findings of the present study confirm the validity and reliability of the Persian version of DFS as an instrument for measuring fear of childbirth (FOC) in Iranian women population.

Summary: Major depressive disorder is considered to be an inflammatory disorder, and dysbiosis of gut microbiota exacerbates depressive symptoms through endotoxemia and inflammation. This study investigated the effects of inulin supplementation on psychological outcomes and biomarkers in women with obesity and depression. The results showed no significant beneficial effects of inulin supplementation on depressive symptoms, gut permeability, or inflammatory biomarkers.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of handle diameter, between-handle distance, workpiece orientation, working height, and exertion direction on torque exertions and subjective measures when using T-shaped handles. The results showed that handle diameter had no significant effect on torque strength, but the 3 cm diameter handle was associated with better usability and comfort. Furthermore, higher torque values were recorded with a between-handle distance of 1.0 shoulder span, especially in the frontal plane, shoulder and knuckle heights, and in the counter-clockwise direction.

Summary: This study investigated the sex-specific differences in nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) expression levels and related responses to air pollutants in the respiratory system of healthy adolescents. The results showed that PM2.5, PM10, O3, and PM2.5-bounded metals were negatively associated with Nrf2 expression in females, while no significant association was observed in males. Additionally, significant associations were found between the pollutants and inflammatory markers in the exhaled breath condensate (EBC) of females.

Summary: This study aimed to identify self-presentation components among nursing students with unsafe clinical practice. The results revealed that students use defensive, assertive, and aggressive tactics to maintain their professional identity and present a positive image of themselves. Therefore, it is essential to establish appropriate structures for identification, learning, guidance, and evaluation based on progress and fostering a growth mindset among students and clinical educators in order to prevent unsafe behaviors and report medical errors.

Predicting mortality in brain stroke patients using neural networks: outcomes analysis in a longitudinal study

Summary: In this study, the Neural Networks (NN) modelling was used to predict outcomes in patients with Brain Stroke (BS) by identifying key risk factors. The study found that smoking, lower education, advanced age, lack of physical activity, and a history of diabetes were significant risk factors for BS mortality. The study provides compelling evidence that the NN approach is highly effective in predicting mortality in patients with BS and has the potential to enhance prediction accuracy.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the confidence level of senior nursing students in their patient safety (PS) competencies and identify associated predictive factors. A survey was conducted among 253 senior nursing students in Iran, collecting data on their confidence in acquired competencies in seven sociocultural dimensions of PS in classroom learning and clinical settings. The study found that the mean scores of all dimensions of PS competencies were higher than 3.11 (out of 5), indicating a relatively high level of confidence. However, the students were most confident in their learning of 'understanding human and environmental factors' and least confident in learning 'work in teams with other health professionals' in both the classroom and clinical settings. The study also identified several predictive factors, such as type of university, prior experience with PS competencies education, and coverage of PS competency issues in the curriculum.

Summary: This longitudinal study used a semi-competing risk approach to evaluate the factors affecting recurrence and postoperative death in patients with colorectal cancer, mitigating the overestimation of survival prediction in cancer studies. The results showed that metastasis to other sites and higher pN stage were associated with an increased risk of recurrence, while fewer chemotherapies and higher pN stages were significantly associated with an increased risk of death without recurrence, and metastasis to other sites and higher pN stages were linked to a higher risk of death after recurrence.
