Summary: This paper simulated the seepage characteristics of a soil-rock mixture (SRM) at different sizes using the improved Monte Carlo method and the lattice Boltzmann method. Through 342 simulation experiments, it was found that the permeability of the SRM gradually increased with an increase in resolution (R) and tended to stabilize at R = 60 ppi. The dispersion degree of the model permeability obtained by different segmentation types followed the order of center < random < equal < top at the same model feature size (S), and the permeability gradually decreased with an increase in S and stabilized at S = 80 mm.

Summary: The transition characteristics of fluid flow regime in real rough rock fractures during shearing were investigated in this study. Experimental results showed that the relationship between flow rate and hydraulic gradient followed Forchheimer's law. The critical hydraulic gradient decreased with shear displacement and increased with confining pressure. The equivalent hydraulic aperture increased due to dilation and decreased due to closure of fractures. The transmissivity decreased with confining pressure and increased with shear displacement. The Forchheimer coefficient increased with confining pressure and decreased with shear displacement. The equivalent permeability coefficient exhibited three stages of constant, gentle decrease, and significant decrease with respect to hydraulic gradient.

Summary: In this study, the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy was introduced to investigate the structural characteristics of soil-rock mixtures and establish a three-level equivalent circuit to describe the cementation state. It was found that the degree of cementation of SRM increases with increasing water content and rock content. The relationship between the imaginary impedance and specific gravity, as well as the changes in density, water content, and saturation threshold, were also examined.

Summary: This paper presents a novel method for evaluating the stability of Soil-rock mixture (SRM) slopes that differs from the traditional method. A SRM slope model is established for stability analysis using an automated failure path identification program, pyBIMstab. Results indicate that the failure path with a 45 degrees inclination angle is the smoothest and most dangerous. Two tortuous indexes, tortuous length ratio (TLR) and average tortuous width (ATW), are introduced to evaluate the tortuosity of potential failure paths. The influence of groundwater on the SRM slope weakens the soil's parameter strength and reduces the safety factor, leading to instability.

Summary: Soil-rock mixture (S-RM) deposits are commonly found in landslide sites in the Indian Himalayas, and assessing their shear strength is difficult due to complex interaction between rock particles and sand fines matrix. Limited studies have been conducted on the shear strength of S-RM, and very few approaches are available to assess it. This study attempts to solve this problem through extensive laboratory testing on S-RM samples from four origins. The analysis shows that existing approaches do not adequately capture the shear strength response of S-RM, and suggests modifications to the Barton-Kjaernsli approach for its applicability to S-RM.

Summary: This study describes the formation and development of fracture networks using fractal theory and analyzes their structural characteristics. Numerical calculations are used to determine the fractal dimension, equivalent hydraulic conductivity, and equivalent non-Darcy coefficient of the fracture network, and the influence of the fractal dimension on hydraulic conductivity and non-Darcy coefficient is studied.

Summary: This research investigates the seepage and heat transfer characteristics of fluid flowing through fractured rock mass, which is crucial for the utilization of geothermal resources. The behaviors and characteristics of heat transfer through single fracture channel, two intersecting fractures channels, and three intersecting fractures channels are compared. The calculation formula of convective heat transfer coefficient for water flowing through multi channels is derived. Additionally, the relationship between seepage characteristic parameters and confining pressure during the loading and unloading process is analyzed, and the heat transfer mechanism of water flowing through rock sample with multi fractures is studied.

Summary: This study examines the changes in permeability of a saturated porous medium depending on porosity during piping, deduces the critical hydraulic gradient using Kozeny-Carman's formula, and considers the relationship between permeability coefficient and porosity. The study applies transient seepage finite element program to simulate the initial seepage field and judges whether piping occurs in the elements, adjusting the permeability coefficient of piping elements accordingly.

Summary: This study proposes a mesoscopic numerical simulation method for studying the mechanical behavior of soil-rock mixture (SRM). The results of triaxial compression tests verify the effectiveness and rationality of the proposed method, and show that rock blocks can enhance the strength of SRM. The study also reveals the presence of multiple failure surfaces in the inhomogeneous SRM.

Summary: This paper reviews commonly used parameters and prediction models for assessing the permeability of granular soils. A dimensional homogenous transformation model for a-priori estimation of soil permeability was calibrated using a large database. The paper shows that the calibrated model offers reasonable predictions of permeability with only knowledge of the void ratio and material gradation required.

Summary: During earth pressure balance shield tunnelling in sandy ground, foam and other conditioning agents are injected to reduce permeability of muck. The study found that a low bentonite slurry injection ratio enhanced the workability of foam-conditioned sand and had a significant effect on permeability.
