Summary: The Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2 is spreading rapidly and shows resistance to most therapeutic antibodies. It also evades neutralization by antibodies induced by infection or vaccination more efficiently than the Delta variant. This suggests that therapeutic antibodies may not be effective against the Omicron variant, and double vaccination with BNT162b2 may not provide adequate protection against severe disease caused by this variant.

Summary: This study found that maternal mRNA COVID-19 vaccination, including booster doses, provided protection against medically attended COVID-19. Vaccine effectiveness estimates were higher for COVID-19-associated hospitalizations compared to emergency department/urgent care visits, and lower for the Omicron variant than the Delta variant. Protection decreased over time, especially during the Omicron predominance.

Summary: SARS-CoV-2 infection often leads to kidney damage through various mechanisms. Although there is no definitive evidence of direct damage by the virus, recent literature suggests a possible association. Regardless of pulmonary involvement, SARS-CoV-2 infection is a poor prognostic factor. We present a challenging case of collapsing glomerulopathy and focal proliferative IgA-dominant glomerulonephritis in a patient with active hepatitis C virus (HCV), SARS-CoV-2 infection, and a history of cocaine abuse.

Summary: This study found strong correlation between the functionality of COVID-19 convalescent plasma and polyclonal antibody targeting of specific peptides in the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein. Summary: This study aims to evaluate the evolution differences in the incidence and case fatality rate of SARS-CoV-2 Delta and Omicron variants. The findings suggest that the Omicron variant has a higher incidence but a lower case fatality rate worldwide, mainly due to the decreased pathogenicity caused by the mutation of the virus, while vaccination still plays a valuable role in preventing death.

Summary: This study analyzed renal comorbidities in collapsing focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) and found that collapsing glomerulopathy (CG) has a higher rate of comorbidities compared to tip-variant FSGS (T-FSGS). The study showed that vascular diseases, especially stenosing vasculopathies, were more prevalent in CG with comorbidities. Membranous glomerulopathies were also more common in native kidneys with accompanied CG. These findings are important for understanding the pathogenesis and possible therapeutic strategies for CG.

Summary: Multiple COVID-19 vaccines have successfully protected against symptomatic cases and deaths. Comparisons of T cell, B cell, and antibody responses to different vaccines can provide insights into protective immunity against COVID-19, particularly immune memory. mRNA vaccines and Ad26.COV2.S induced strong T cell responses, while mRNA vaccines showed substantial declines in antibodies.
