Summary: This clinical study evaluated the clinical, radiographic, and patient-reported outcomes of single-implant mandibular overdentures after a 5-year follow-up. The results showed that single-implant mandibular overdentures effectively improved oral health-related quality of life, increased patient satisfaction, maintained implant stability, and had acceptable rates of prosthetic events.

Summary: This study aimed to explore patients' experiences using Patient-reported outcomes (PROs) in remote care and how this mode of follow-up may enhance patient engagement. The study found that PRO-based remote follow-up can enhance patient engagement by improving communication, increasing disease knowledge, inducing flexibility, ensuring clinician feedback on PRO data, and prompting clinical action. However, some barriers need clinical awareness before PROs may enhance the patients' engagement in remote follow-up.

Summary: This study establishes and tests the OLP Investigator Global Assessment (IGA) as a clinician-reported outcome measure for oral lichen planus (OLP). The OLP IGA scale is found to be suitable for assessing changes in symptomatic OLP lesions across a wide range of severity and can be used in both clinical practice and clinical trials.

Summary: This study reviewed the use of patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) in the treatment of ophthalmologic conditions as recommended by the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs). The findings showed that PROMs are seldom used in ophthalmology CPGs and treatment research, and when they are considered, their interpretation is rarely based on a minimal important difference (MID). To improve patient care, guideline developers should consider incorporating PROMs and applicable MIDs to inform key outcomes.

Summary: This study aimed to examine factors contributing to completion of a patient-reported outcome (PRO) measure in patients undergoing laser vision correction. The results showed that patients with worse objective visual outcomes were more likely to complete PRO measures, indicating a need for methods to address loss to follow-up in PRO measures.

Summary: This study investigated the clinical and radiographic outcomes at least 4 years after root canal treatment (RCT) and evaluated patients' perceived oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL). The results showed high success rates in both clinical and radiographic aspects of RCT. However, patients with difficult cases and technical mishaps experienced more clinical symptoms. Clinical symptoms were found to be related to patients' OHRQoL.

Summary: This article reviews the importance of clinician-reported outcome measures (ClinROMs) in assessing vitiligo and describes 14 different ClinROMs that can be used to measure vitiligo extent, repigmentation, and activity. The choice of an appropriate ClinROM depends on practical strengths and limitations as well as the research question and setting.

Summary: Despite progress, there is still a lack of standardization in the use of outcome measures for AA. A scoping review revealed heterogeneity in the outcome measures used in assessing and treating AA. Only a small number of ClinROMs were frequently used in research studies and clinical trials, indicating the need for consensus and standardization in this field.

Summary: In this study, changes in CROM and PROMs were retrospectively analyzed in 395 patients with lower back pain. Rehabilitation had a significant effect on the outcomes, with pain showing the best performance, and a lower percentage of patients deteriorating in FTF compared to PROMs. The correlation between PROMs and FTF was low to moderate, with a high consistency level in performance scores observed in 68.9% of patients.

Summary: This study evaluated the application and characteristics of patient-reported outcome (PRO) instruments as primary and secondary outcomes in randomized clinical trials in China. The results showed an increase in the use of PROs in clinical trials conducted in China. However, patient opinion is still rarely measured. The use of PROs is geographically unevenly distributed. The development of PRO instruments, especially those suitable for the Chinese population, may be beneficial. Further expansion of PROs with respect to the scope of diseases is needed to avoid missing important data.

Summary: Endodontic therapy aims to preserve teeth by preventing and treating apical disease. Traditional treatment outcome reporting focuses on clinician-reported outcomes (CROs), while patient-reported outcomes (PROs) are less commonly employed. This lack of consensus in outcome reporting leads to heterogeneity, which hinders meta-analysis, guidelines development, and clinical decision making. The establishment of a core outcome set (COS) in endodontics can reduce these effects.

Summary: Recently, there has been a shift in oral health care settings towards assessing treatment outcomes from the patient's perspective. However, in the field of endodontology, research on treatment outcomes has mainly focused on clinician-reported outcomes (CROs) rather than dental patient-reported outcomes (dPROs). This review aims to highlight the importance of dPROs, present an overview of dPROs and dPROMs in endodontics, and emphasize the need to place the patient at the center of treatment. Key dPROs following endodontic treatment include pain, tenderness, tooth function, need for further intervention, adverse effects, and Oral Health-Related Quality of Life. It is crucial for clinicians and researchers in endodontology to prioritize patient welfare and incorporate appropriate measures to analyze dPROs.

Summary: This study evaluated the quality of 50 case reports related to dental traumatology using the PRICE 2020 guidelines. The results showed that many reports had not reported or partially reported certain criteria before the publication of the guidelines. Therefore, it is recommended that authors follow the PRICE 2020 guidelines to improve the overall quality of their case reports.

Summary: Dental patient-reported outcomes (dPROs) are self-reported oral health status by patients, whereas dental patient-reported outcome measures (dPROMs) are used to assess dPROs. The importance of assessing treatment outcomes from the patient's perspective has increased in dental traumatology, particularly for traumatic dental injuries (TDIs), which are highly prevalent globally. Key dPROs following TDIs include oral health-related quality of life, pain, swelling, aesthetics, function, adverse effects, patient satisfaction, number of clinical visits, and trauma-related dental anxiety. Evaluating dPROs using appropriate measures is essential for clinicians and researchers to prioritize patient well-being and improve clinical studies.

Summary: This opinion-led review paper emphasizes the importance of innovative translational research in vital-pulp-treatment (VPT) and discusses the challenges in implementing evidence in clinics. The traditional dentistry approach, which is expensive and invasive, lacks a biological perspective. Recent research focuses on developing minimally-invasive biologically-based 'fillings' that preserve dental pulp and shift the paradigm towards smart restorations targeting biological processes. The potential use of histone-deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitors in stimulating pro-regenerative effects and enhancing biomaterial-driven tissue responses in VPT is analyzed in this article.

Summary: For functional and esthetic reasons, it is important to restore or reshape autotransplanted teeth in the maxillary anterior region as soon as possible. However, immediate restorations are often not done due to potential negative impact on the healing process. This report introduces the use of CAD-CAM technology to create preoperative PMMA veneers for immediate and interim recontouring of autotransplanted anterior teeth.
