Summary: Bone fractures are a global public health concern, but no comprehensive investigation on the use of low-dose aspirin to prevent fractures in the elderly has been conducted. This cross-sectional study found no significant association between the use of low-dose aspirin and fracture prevention in older adults. However, due to the higher incidence of fractures in the elderly, especially in women, it is important to implement more injury prevention initiatives and improve access to osteoporosis prevention and diagnosis to reduce the overall burden.

Summary: This study identified two clinical subgroups of patients with long-lasting nonspecific low back pain. It found that psychological factors were strongly associated with disability in both subgroups, while physical factors and pain were also significant contributors in different ways. This highlights the importance of considering psychological factors in the treatment of low back pain.

Summary: The objective of this cross-sectional study was to characterize the neuropathic component of chronic back pain in patients with osteoporotic vertebral fractures (OVFs). The study found that the prevalence of neuropathic pain in chronic back pain ranged from 5.5% to 23.6% in patients with OVFs. Further studies should investigate if the characterization of chronic back pain might contribute to appropriateness of interventions for this population.

Summary: This study investigated the association between vertebral fragility fractures and lower limb muscle strength and physical performance in women with low bone mass. The presence of vertebral fracture was found to be independently associated with decreased lower limb muscle strength and poor physical performance. Therefore, strength and power training programs for the lower limbs could improve physical performance.

Summary: The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence and risk factors of back pain in children and adolescents. The study found that 50% of the participants experienced back pain at least once. Factors such as age, gender, body fat percentage, prolonged smartphone and computer use, hyperkyphosis, and lateral global spine tilt were associated with an increased risk of back pain, while regular physical activity or sports and video games had a protective effect.

Summary: This study investigates the prevalence and intensity of low back pain (LBP) in people with lower limb amputation (LLA) through an online questionnaire. The results show that LBP is more common in LLA individuals compared to the general population, with similar levels of pain intensity and frequency. This highlights the importance of educating this population about the benefits of physical activity.

Summary: The aim of this study was to assess the potential value of the Comirnaty vaccine in Poland and to estimate patient events, direct medical costs, utilities, and cost-effectiveness using a model. The results showed that vaccinating the whole population had an incremental cost per QALY gained of 6249 PLN. Vaccination was found to be more cost-effective for individuals aged 60-69 and >80 years. The study also highlighted that the vaccine effectiveness, price, and infection rates had a major impact on the cost-effectiveness ratio.

Summary: This study evaluated the knowledge and practices of Polish doctors regarding antimicrobial prescribing and antibiotic resistance. The results showed that most doctors were aware of the side effects of antibiotics, the inability of antibiotics to treat viruses, the link between unnecessary use of antibiotics and antimicrobial resistance, and the possibility of healthy individuals carrying resistant bacteria. However, only a small percentage of respondents knew that the use of antibiotics as growth stimulants in livestock is illegal in the EU. Some doctors also reported a lack of appropriate materials for antimicrobial resistance counseling.

Summary: The study aimed to assess the prevalence of depression, anxiety, stress, and insomnia among resident doctors in Poland during the COVID-19 pandemic. The results showed high levels of depression, anxiety, stress, and insomnia among the participating doctors. Female doctors, physicians working directly with COVID-19 patients, and those who had COVID-19 themselves were at a higher risk. Systemic solutions are needed to address the mental health concerns of doctors.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the incidence, prevalence, mortality, and survival in multiple myeloma patients in Poland from 2008 to 2017. The results showed that the incidence and prevalence of multiple myeloma in Poland had been continuously increasing during the study period, which could be attributed to the aging population, improved detection of the disease, and better access to effective therapies. Further studies are needed to explore the impact of these factors on the epidemiology of multiple myeloma.
