Summary: This study proposed a novel method for evaluating psoriasis, which improves the evaluation performance of various types of psoriasis, including multiple-severity diseases, by detecting representative regions and extracting severity features. The results showed that EfficientNet B1 with MS-DAM exhibited the best classification performance, with over 5% higher accuracy than six existing self-attention methods. Using the gradient-weighted activation mapping method, it was confirmed that the proposed method works at par with human visual perception.

Summary: The study confirmed the association of Wnt5a and its receptors with the pathogenesis and severity of psoriasis vulgaris. The expressions of Wnt5a, Frizzled5, and Frizzled2 were positively correlated with PASI scores, but not with disease duration. The findings suggest that Wnt5a and its receptors may serve as immunohistochemical predictors of the severity of psoriasis.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of psoriasis on the quality of life of Afghan patients. The results showed a strong correlation between the psoriasis disability index and the severity of the disease, and that the quality of life was more affected in female patients, those younger than 40 years old, and those who were single.

Summary: The study evaluated the Optimal Psoriasis Assessment Tool (OPAT) as an alternative to the Psoriasis Area Severity Index (PASI). It was found that Body Surface Area (BSA) is the main measure influencing OPAT, and that the correlation between PASI and BSA combined with patient assessments was higher. Additionally, DLQI had stronger correlations with combined measures than with BSA alone.

Summary: The Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI) is commonly used in clinical trials to assess the disease severity of plaque psoriasis, but it lacks precision when the regional area of involvement is less than 10% of the BSA. A modification to the PASI, termed PASI-high discrimination (PASI-HD), is described for more accurate evaluation of psoriasis severity in body regions with less than 10% affected area.

Summary: Real-world evidence comparing the effectiveness of different biologic therapies for psoriasis shows that adalimumab, ustekinumab, secukinumab, ixekizumab, and guselkumab are more effective in reducing PASI scores and achieving PASI90 than etanercept. Ixekizumab and guselkumab have higher probabilities of achieving PASI90 than other treatments. The proportions of patients reaching PASI90/75 are lower in real-world studies compared to randomized controlled trials.

Summary: The study aimed to determine whether the commonly used thresholds to define moderate psoriasis (PASI of 10-12 and BSA of 10) are supported by patient-reported DLQI data. The results indicated that patients with PASI or BSA scores less than 10 can have major quality of life impairment.

Summary: The study revealed a potential role of H. pylori in the pathogenesis of psoriasis, showing that treatment of H. pylori can alleviate psoriasis severity. Haptoglobin may serve as a psoriatic biomarker with 1.95 g/L as the cutoff value, and in infected patients with H. pylori, C-13-UBT is the most reliable predictor for psoriasis.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate residual disease activity during treatment with tildrakizumab. The results showed that PASI scores were more reliable in assessing disease activity compared to percentage PASI improvement, which could partially explain the efficacy disparities between clinical trials and practice. Therefore, supplementing dichotomous PASI improvement with PASI scores and considering patient treatment goals could facilitate clinical decisions.

Summary: Recent studies have found that certain metabolites in the blood and urine are involved in the development of psoriasis, but the research on skin metabolomics for psoriasis is limited. In this study, researchers compared the metabolic profiles of lesional and nonlesional skin from 12 psoriasis patients using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry. They identified several metabolites that were significantly different between lesional and nonlesional skin, mainly related to amino acid, lipid, and nucleotide metabolism. Fourteen potential biomarkers were identified, some of which were correlated with disease severity.

Summary: Psoriasis is a chronic skin disease associated with immune response, inflammation, and genetics. A study found that a variant of the IL36G gene (rs7584409) is associated with protection against psoriasis, but in patients with psoriasis, this variant is associated with more severe disease and psoriatic arthritis.
