Anti-Pentraxin Antibodies in Autoimmune Diseases: Bystanders or Pathophysiological Actors?

Benoit Brilland, Emeline Vinatier, Jean-Francois Subra, Pascale Jeannin, Jean-Francois Augusto, Yves Delneste

Summary: Pentraxins are soluble innate immunity receptors that play a role in clearing microbes and dead cells, as well as regulating complement activation, inflammation, and tissue homeostasis. Autoantibodies against pentraxins are associated with autoimmune diseases like systemic lupus erythematosus and ANCA-associated vasculitis.

Lymphopaenia at diagnosis of anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody-vasculitis with renal involvement is correlated with severity and renal prognosis

Samuel Wacrenier, Jeremie Riou, Pierre Jourdain, Fanny Guibert, Nicolas Henry, Assia Djema, Jean-Philippe Coindre, Romain Crochette, Maud Cousin, Anne Croue, Jean-Francois Subra, Giorgina Piccoli, Jean-Francois Augusto, Benoit Brilland

Summary: Lymphopaenia is associated with the severity of AAV glomerulonephritis at diagnosis and predicts poor renal outcome in AAV-RI patients. Therefore, lymphopaenia could be used as a simple and cost-effective biomarker to assess renal prognosis at AAV-RI diagnosis.

Serum Interleukin-26 Is a New Biomarker for Disease Activity Assessment in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

Benoit Brilland, Maxime Bach-Bunner, Christopher Nunes Gomes, Vincent Larochette, Etienne Foucher, Marc Plaisance, Patrick Saulnier, Nathalie Costedoat-Chalumeau, Pascale Ghillani, Cristina Belizna, Yves Delneste, Jean-Francois Augusto, Pascale Jeannin

Summary: The study found that IL-26 levels were significantly higher in SLE patients compared to controls, and were also significantly higher in patients with active disease compared to those with inactive disease. IL-26 levels correlated positively with SLEDAI score and uPCR. Patients with high IL-26 levels showed higher disease activity markers and complement consumption, indicating IL-26 may be a useful biomarker for active disease identification in SLE patients.

Proteinuria Increases the PLASMIC and French Scores Performance to Predict Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura in Patients With Thrombotic Microangiopathy Syndrome

Nicolas Fage, Corentin Orvain, Nicolas Henry, Chloe Mellaza, Francois Beloncle, Marie Tuffigo, Franck Genevieve, Paul Coppo, Jean Francois Augusto, Benoit Brilland

Summary: This study evaluated the diagnostic value of PLASMIC and French scores in patients with thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA). The results showed that these scores have low predictive values when applied to an unselected TMA cohort. However, including proteinuria level in the original scores improves their performance for thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) prediction.

Clusterin Neutralizes the Inflammatory and Cytotoxic Properties of Extracellular Histones in Sepsis

Jean-Francois Augusto, Celine Beauvillain, Caroline Poli, Lea Paolini, Isabelle Tournier, Pascale Pignon, Simon Blanchard, Laurence Preisser, Raffaella Soleti, Chloe Delepine, Marine Monnier, Isabelle Douchet, Pierre Asfar, Francois Beloncle, Olivier Guisset, Renaud Prevel, Alain Mercat, Emeline Vinatier, Julien Goret, Jean-Francois Subra, Dominique Couez, Mark R. Wilson, Patrick Blanco, Pascale Jeannin, Yves Delneste

Summary: Extracellular histones released during extensive cell death can promote inflammation and cell death, and clusterin (CLU) can reduce their deleterious properties. Decreased levels of CLU were observed in patients with sepsis, and CLU deficiency was associated with increased mortality in mouse models of sepsis. CLU supplementation improved mouse survival in a sepsis model.
