Summary: The study demonstrates that MFG-E8 plays a protective role in the pancreas and promotes tissue repair during acute pancreatitis. Knocking out MFG-E8 exacerbates the severity of pancreatitis, while administration of recombinant MFG-E8 can attenuate acute pancreatitis and facilitate pancreatic injury repair.

Summary: The research shows that the phagocytic ability of microglia is significantly reduced after propofol treatment, but MFG-E8 can reverse the inhibition of phagocytosis by propofol. MFG-E8 may reverse the suppression of phagocytosis induced by propofol through the regulation of the AMPK and Src signaling pathways.

Summary: Milk fat globule-EGF factor VIII (MFG-E8) is a potential source of bioactive peptides that can counteract oxidative stress in the treatment of sarcopenia. This study identified 95 peptides in MFG-E8 and found that IDLG and KDPG exhibited high binding affinity with keap1. In cell experiments, IDLG and KDPG alleviated oxidative stress-induced L6 cell injury and improved mitochondrial homeostasis. These effects were attributed to the downregulation of keap1 expression and upregulation of Nrf2, HO-1, and PGC-1 alpha expression.

Summary: Mitophagy and zymophagy are selective autophagy pathways induced in acute pancreatitis, with mitochondrial dysfunction and changes in mitochondrial dynamics observed. A novel DRP1-Parkin1-VMP1 selective autophagy pathway was identified during acute pancreatitis, mediating the selective degradation of damaged mitochondria and providing insights for potential therapeutic strategies.

Summary: This study demonstrates that the m6A reader YTHDF1 plays a protective role in fulminant hepatitis by regulating the translation of MFG-E8 protein in an m6A-dependent manner. YTHDF1 deficiency exacerbates liver damage, whereas YTHDF1 overexpression mitigates cell death and improves mitochondrial function. These findings provide insights into the molecular mechanisms underlying fulminant hepatitis.

Summary: This study analyzed the distribution and prognostic impact of MFG-E8 protein expression in patients with prostate and renal cancers. It found that low levels of MFG-E8 were associated with worse clinical outcomes and that higher numbers of CD206(+) cells were found in the peripheral regions of renal clear cell carcinoma with lower MFG-E8 levels. The study suggests that MFG-E8 expression could potentially be used as a prognostic marker in prostate and renal cancers.

Summary: Mitochondria-dependent myoblast apoptosis induced by oxidative stress and decrease in protein synthesis plays a crucial role in sarcopenia. Milk fat globule-EGF factor VIII (MFG-E8) can protect against mitochondrial injury and apoptosis through regulation of mitochondrial function and apoptosis-related factors. The findings provide a promising approach for mitigating sarcopenia.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the maternal serum MFG-E8 levels in healthy pregnant women and pregnant women with missed abortion or threatened abortion in the first trimester. The results showed significant differences in MFG-E8 levels among the three groups. Maternal serum MFG-E8 levels were lower in women with missed abortion, which may be associated with non-live pregnancies.

Summary: Gas-forming pyogenic liver abscess (GFPLA) is more likely to be associated with biliary source infection and less cryptogenic infection in etiologies. It is also related to past hepatobiliary surgery, especially biliary enteric anastomosis, with high rates of sepsis and prolonged hospitalization. Therefore, patients with a history of hepatobiliary surgery should be closely monitored in the early stage of PLA and recognized as a distinct clinical entity.

Summary: The study revealed that patients with a preoperative platelet count greater than 49.5 x 10^9/L had a higher risk of posttransplant portal vein complication and early allograft dysfunction after liver transplantation. This suggests that a high preoperative platelet count could serve as an adverse prognostic predictor for liver transplantation recipients.
