Summary: This study aimed to describe the frequency and type of cardiac complications associated with sarcoidosis in a large cohort of patients with sarcoid uveitis. The prevalence of cardiac sarcoidosis was found to be low among patients with sarcoid uveitis, but those with previously diagnosed systemic sarcoidosis or who developed systemic sarcoidosis during follow-up appeared to be at higher risk.

Summary: This study retrospectively examined the effectiveness of three treatment regimens for cardiac sarcoidosis and found that prednisone-tapering regimens containing infliximab were superior to those containing prednisone alone or prednisone plus methotrexate in terms of reducing prednisone dose and achieving the lowest effective dose.

Summary: This study found that a third dose of an mRNA-based vaccine can boost antibody responses and immunity in infliximab-treated patients with IBD. However, these patients had lower antibody concentrations compared to those treated with vedolizumab and were more likely to experience breakthrough infections and reinfections.

Summary: Infliximab appears to be an effective therapy for refractory sarcoidosis, particularly showing its greatest value in neurologic and cutaneous manifestations. Across all disease presentations, Infliximab facilitated a clinically relevant reduction in corticosteroid dose. Relapse is common after discontinuation of Infliximab.

Summary: This study emulated a pragmatic trial using observational data and compared it with the results of a well-known trial. The findings showed that using a prespecified protocol in clinical registry data can replicate the results of the trial, favoring infliximab over SSZ + HCQ combination therapy at 9 months.

Summary: This study retrospectively reviewed data from 112 patients with pulmonary sarcoidosis who underwent lung or heart-lung transplantation, finding that post-transplant survival rates were similar to those with other indications for lung transplantation. Older age and extensive pre-operative lung fibrosis were the main factors associated with worse survival.

Summary: Hepatic involvement in sarcoidosis was found in 4.2% of patients and was clinically significant in 14.5% of those. Most patients were asymptomatic and presented with a cholestatic pattern of liver enzyme elevations. Summary: This study aimed to analyze the level of circulating forms of hepatitis B virus (HBV) in patients and evaluate their impact on the viral lifecycle. The results showed differences in the levels of different circulating forms among patients and their correlation with disease severity and viral replication activity. Furthermore, particles containing pregenomic RNA were found to play a crucial role in viral replication. These findings have important implications for further understanding the mechanisms of HBV infection and developing new treatment strategies.

Summary: This study compared the clinical and virological outcomes in Omicron BA.1 and BA.2-infected patients who received sotrovimab and nirmatrelvir for the prevention of severe COVID-19. The results showed that early administration of nirmatrelvir was associated with faster viral clearance compared to sotrovimab, which may contribute to reducing transmission and preventing viral resistance.

Summary: This study examined the impact of direct-acting antivirals (DAAs) on cardiovascular events and extrahepatic cancers in patients with chronic hepatitis C (CHC). The results showed that DAAs reduced the risk of peripheral arterial disease (PAD) and had a beneficial effect on overall cardiovascular outcomes in patients with advanced fibrosis. However, there was an increased risk of arrhythmias and conduction disorders (ACD) after the first year of DAA therapy. There was no association between DAA use and extrahepatic cancer risk. Therefore, long-term cardiac monitoring is necessary after DAA therapy.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate whether the dynamics of multiple measurements of simple parameters after sustained viral response (SVR) enable the development of a personalized prediction of prognosis in patients with hepatitis C virus (HCV) chronic infection. The study found that FIB4 was a biomarker associated with liver-related complications (LRC) occurrence after SVR. The results suggest that dynamic modeling using repeated measurements of simple parameters predicts the individual residual risk of LRC and improves personalized medicine after SVR in HCV patients.

Summary: Long COVID-19 syndrome is characterized by acute damage to microcapillaries, microthrombi, and endothelialitis after SARS-CoV-2 infection. It has been discovered that VE-cadherin, a component of endothelial cell junctions, is a target for ACE2 cleavage. This cleavage leads to the production of soluble fragments of VE-cadherin, which serve as potential biomarkers for vascular disease in Long COVID-19.

Summary: This study aimed to understand the contribution of children to the risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection in household members. The study found that living with children, especially very young ones, was associated with an increased risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection, particularly during the Delta and Omicron BA.1 waves. These findings can help guide policies targeting children and immunocompromised members of households.

Summary: This study aimed to assess thrombotic and haemorrhagic events in pregnant women with antiphospholipid syndrome. The study found that despite receiving treatment adhering to international recommendations, a proportion of women with antiphospholipid syndrome developed thrombotic or severe haemorrhagic complications related to pregnancy. Lupus anticoagulant and placental insufficiency were identified as risk factors for these life-threatening complications.
