Summary: Salt cocrystals typically exhibit distinct packing motifs and noncovalent interactions from their constituent components, with changes in stoichiometry potentially leading to unpredictable changes in materials properties. This study presents a series of salt cocrystals that maintain a general packing motif while allowing access to a range of stoichiometries, breaking away from the common motif of crown ether complexes and exploring compositions with higher proportions of oxidizing salt. The research provides insights for the design of salt cocrystals in the energetic materials field.

Summary: An open-cage fullerene derivative was prepared by Malaprade oxidation of a vicinal triol moiety. The orifice above the 17-membered ring contains a carboxyl group, and there are three ketone carbonyl groups and one lactone carbonyl group on the rim of the orifice. The carboxylic and carbonyl oxygen atoms around the orifice act as strong polydentate ligands for a sodium ion and also form various isomeric rhodium complexes with comparable stability when reacted with [Rh(CO)(2)Cl](2). The fullerene C=C bond on the rim of the orifice forms a stable platinum complex when treated with Pt(PPh3)(4), and one of the carboxylic oxygen atoms above the orifice forms a H-bond with the water molecule trapped in the cage as revealed by the single crystal X-ray diffraction data.

Summary: The study aims to develop simple and cost-effective ion-selective sensors for quantification of Sc3+ in aqueous media. By utilizing various lipophilic ligands suggested in liquid extraction, a series of plasticized polymeric sensor membranes were synthesized showing pronounced sensitivity to Sc3+ in acidic aqueous solutions. The sensors demonstrated real-life applicability in quantification of scandium in industrial solutions and are considered a promising alternative to conventional analytical methods in technological process monitoring task.

Summary: Several aliphatic internal imine isomers were selectively synthesized and characterized in this study, showing selectivity towards various transition metal ions with large shifts in UV-Vis and fluorescence OFF-ON switching in solution. The 1:1 stoichiometry with different transition metals was determined, with the 1,2-ethlenediamine dimer exhibiting the best selectivity towards Hg(II). The study also presented selectivity in different solvent media, varying kinetics of transition metal binding with the macrocycle, and crystallography of the ligands and their metal complexes.
