This study explored the relationship among income, carbon emissions, energy consumption, and trade openness for Morocco from 1971 to 2011. The Johansen cointegration technique confirmed the long run relationship among the variables. The energy consumption deteriorated the environment quality and found to be true for both short run and long run. Foreign trade is beneficial for environment quality as foreign trade openness has negative impact on carbon emissions. This study did not confirm the environmental Kuznets curve hypothesis in long run. Furthermore, there is a strong one way causation from income to carbon emissions. Thus, Morocco can improve environment quality by reducing the carbon emissions and it will not disturb economic pace of the economy. Therefore, energy and trade policies should be made growth oriented. In the same way energy production and consumption has to be made environmental friendly. (C) 2016 Elsevier Ltd. Nexus between export variety and carbon emissions in Pakistan: The role of FDI and technological development

Summary: This study examines the impact of export variety, foreign direct investment (FDI), and technological development on environmental degradation in Pakistan. The results suggest that economic development does not necessarily lead to environmental degradation in the long run. Export variety has a short-term restraining effect, while energy consumption worsens environmental degradation. FDI and technological development help to mitigate environmental degradation.

Summary: This study aims to test the causal nexus among energy consumption, environmental degradation, financial development, and health outcomes in the case of Pakistan. The results show that there is a unidirectional causality from energy consumption and environmental degradation to health outcomes, while a bidirectional causality is found between financial development and health outcomes in the long run. Energy and financial development can play a positive role in improving health outcomes in Pakistan.

Does terrorism affect the stock market returns and volatility? Evidence from Pakistan's stock exchange

Dilawar Khan, Arif Ullah, Wajid Alim, Ihtisham ul Haq

Summary: This study examines the impact of terrorism on stock market returns and volatility in Pakistan. The results confirm that terrorism significantly affects both the stock market returns and volatility. Negative shock (terror news) creates higher volatility compared to positive shock (good news) in the stock market. The study suggests that addressing terrorism is crucial for achieving stability in financial markets.

Summary: Phenology monitoring is important for understanding forest functioning and climate impacts. This research compares the phenological behavior of European beech forests using Tree-Talker (TT+) and Sentinel 2 satellite data. The study finds differences in the information derived by the two sensor types, particularly in terms of season length, phenology changepoints, and leaf period variability. TT+ with its higher temporal resolution demonstrates precision in capturing the phenological changepoints, especially when satellite image availability is limited.
