Summary: This study aims to identify modifiable health-related factors associated with changes in cognitive status among older people. The findings suggest that hypertension/bone and joint diseases cluster is the only predictor for conversion from preserved cognitive health to mild cognitive impairment.

Summary: This study investigated the correlation between social support, sarcopenia, and cognitive impairment in Chinese older adults. The findings suggest that high levels of social support are negatively associated with sarcopenia and cognitive impairment, highlighting the importance of social networks in promoting health among community-dwelling older adults in China.

Summary: This study aimed to develop and test the psychometric properties of peer relationship scales for Chinese community-dwelling elderly. The results supported a two-factor model for PRS-Quantity and a three-factor model for PRS-Quality, showing good reliability and validity. These scales can be useful tools for assessing social health and service effectiveness among elderly individuals.

Summary: The study found a correlation between malnutrition and cognitive frailty among Thai elderly, with MNA-SF category and score being independently associated factors, while serum prealbumin level and anthropometric measurements showed no correlation with cognitive frailty. Advanced age and low educational level were also identified as risk factors for cognitive frailty.

Summary: The study found a significant association between masticatory function and bone mineral density (BMD) in community-dwelling elderly adults, with differences observed between sexes. Other factors such as muscle mass and age may also play a role in this relationship, highlighting the potential benefits of regular oral health care for this population.

Summary: This study aims to determine the prevalence of cognitive frailty and its associated factors among the rural community-dwelling elderly population in West Bengal, India. The results show that cognitive frailty is significantly associated with increasing age, being female, out-of-wedlock, poor education, non-working sociodemographic status, poor nutritional status, low health-related quality of life, and depression. These findings highlight the need for a multidimensional approach to provide appropriate geriatric health care in developing countries like India.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the adverse health effects and predictive factors of distinct cognitive trajectories among Chinese older adults. The study found that about 5.3% of older adults had a rapid decline in cognition. These individuals had a higher risk of experiencing frailty, falls, balance impairment, high fall risk, disability in activities of daily living, disability in instrumental activities of daily living, and motor cognitive risk syndrome. Factors such as older age, low education level, unmarried status, high score of rapid eye movement behavior disorders, and poor physical and cognitive function at baseline predisposed individuals to accelerated cognitive decline.

Summary: This study used a photodynamic technique to selectively eliminate the cortico-subthalamo projection in male mice, and found that after elimination, cortically evoked early excitation in the substantia nigra pars reticulata was diminished, while the cortically evoked inhibition and late excitation delivered through the direct and indirect pathways remained unchanged. In addition, locomotor activity was significantly increased after bilateral cortico-subthalamo elimination.

Summary: This study found that ingestion of Lactiplantibacillus plantarum OLL2712 had protective effects against memory function decline in older adults. Significant improvements in composite memory and visual memory scores were observed in the active group. Additionally, the active group showed a lower abundance ratio of bacteria genera related to inflammation.

Summary: In this study, the dietary patterns of elderly Japanese individuals were classified using cluster analysis, and a high-carbohydrate (HC) dietary pattern and a protein-balanced (PB) dietary pattern were identified. Cognitive function was significantly higher in the PB group than in the HC group. A classification model was created to predict cognitive reservation in community-dwelling older adults based on these dietary patterns.
