Three-dimensional power Doppler ultrasonography indicates that increased placental blood perfusion during the third trimester is associated with the risk of macrosomia at birth

Jizi Zhou, Yu Xiong, Yunyun Ren, Ying Zhang, Xiaotian Li, Yingliu Yan

Summary: The study found that 3D power Doppler ultrasound indices of placental blood flow were significantly higher in the third trimester of pregnancies with macrosomia, but only had moderate predictive ability; VI and FI in the third trimester showed potential for predicting macrosomia, but AC and EFW exhibited similar patterns.

Differentially expressed circular RNAs and the competing endogenous RNA network associated with preeclampsia

Bo Ma, Huanqiang Zhao, Lili Gong, Xirong Xiao, Qiongjie Zhou, Huiqing Lu, Yutong Cui, Huangfang Xu, Suwen Wu, Yao Tang, Yunzhen Ye, Weirong Gu, Xiaotian Li

Summary: This study identified differentially expressed circRNAs in preeclampsia and constructed a circRNA-miRNA-mRNA network, highlighting potential signaling pathways involved in the pathogenesis of PE. The findings provide valuable insights into the pathogenesis of preeclampsia and may lead to potential therapeutic targets for this disease.

Intra-couple discordance in preconception syphilis screening for both spouses: a national and population-based survey in China, 2013-2018

Q. Zhou, Y. Yang, L. Wang, X. Chen, Q. Xu, Q. Wang, H. Shen, Z. Xu, Y. Zhang, D. Yan, Z. Peng, Y. He, Y. Wang, X. Li, X. Ma

Summary: This study investigated syphilis seropositivity and intra-couple discordance among married Chinese couples planning a pregnancy, finding significant regional variations and notable discordance between spouses. Screening both spouses during integrated preconception health care is recommended to further eliminate maternal-fetal transmission of syphilis.

Prenatal ultrasound measurements of mild congenital pulmonary airway malformation and long-term prognosis: A retrospective cohort study

Ping An, Xirong Xiao, Ying Zhao, Jizi Zhou, Xiaotian Li, Yu Xiong

Summary: The study found that 76% of CPAM fetuses remained asymptomatic without recurrent respiratory symptoms or surgical resection during long-term follow-up, but some patients may require surgical treatment. Patients with a CVR value lower than 1.0 need to be closely observed after birth.

Effect of a quality improvement intervention with safety-based checklists for perinatal health of hypertension disorders in pregnancy

Hao Zhu, Yijia Yang, Yi Xu, Xia Deng, Jie Yan, Tao Li, Huige Sang, Xiaotian Li, Rong Hu, Weirong Gu

Summary: Following the implementation of checklists, patients showed a significant reduction in both oral and intravenous anti-hypertensive treatment, along with increased utilization rate of MgSO4 management. Gestation was prolonged in the expectant treatment group, and the rates of elective and intrapartum cesarean delivery decreased, while the neonates of these patients had a low rate of admission to the neonatal intensive care unit.

Missed opportunities for venous thromboembolism prophylaxis during pregnancy and the postpartum period: evidence from mainland China in 2019

Zhekun Zhao, Qiongjie Zhou, Xiaotian Li

Summary: The study investigated missed opportunities for VTE prophylaxis in maternal healthcare in mainland China. It found that the majority of women with VTE missed at least one prophylactic opportunity, including lack of anticoagulant treatment and implementation of mechanical methods. Further efforts are needed from patients, healthcare systems, and healthcare providers to enhance the implementation of preventative strategies.

Understanding the Pathogenesis of Gestational Hypothyroidism

Oshini Mallawa Kankanamalage, Qiongjie Zhou, Xiaotian Li

Summary: Pregnancy-induced Gestational Hypothyroidism (GHT) can have adverse effects on both mothers and babies, but the benefits of treatment remain controversial due to potential risks of over-treatment. Regulatory mechanisms leading to GHT during pregnancy are not fully understood at present.

Seroprevalence of Cytomegalovirus and Associated Factors Among Preconception Women: A Cross-Sectional Nationwide Study in China

Qiongjie Zhou, Qiaomei Wang, Haiping Shen, Yiping Zhang, Shikun Zhang, Xiaotian Li, Ganesh Acharya

Summary: A substantial proportion of Chinese women planning pregnancy were susceptible to cytomegalovirus before conception, with low to moderate levels of immunoglobulin G seropositivity and significant geographic variation. Regional differences in seropositivity should be considered in the integration of cytomegalovirus antibody testing in preconception screening programs to develop prevention strategies targeting congenital infections.

Effects of ammonia stress on liver microstructure, antioxidant capability and inflammation-related genes and post-exposure recovery in the hybrid sturgeon (Acipenser baerii ♀ x Acipenser schrencki ♂)

Qian Qi, Chunnuan Zhang, Shun Shi, Xiaolin Liu, Yang Liu, Lin Fu, Yong Liu, Peiyi Meng, Yiping Zhang, Pinpin Lv

Summary: Ammonia stress induced damage to liver tissue in hybrid sturgeon, while also triggering an increase in antioxidant enzyme activity to combat cell oxidative stress. Furthermore, the stress also led to elevated relative expression levels of inflammation-related genes in the liver.

Ambient fine particulate matter air pollution and the risk of preterm birth: A multicenter birth cohort study in China

Chen Chu, Yixiang Zhu, Cong Liu, Renjie Chen, Yingliu Yan, Yunyun Ren, Xiaotian Li, Jimei Wang, Wenzhen Ge, Haidong Kan, Yonghao Gui

Summary: The study found that exposure to PM2.5 during pregnancy is associated with an increased risk of preterm birth, especially during the entire pregnancy and the first trimester. The effects of PM2.5 are stronger in subjects with older parental age, lower maternal pre-pregnancy BMI, and lower family income.

Trophoblast-derived interleukin 9 mediates immune cell conversion and contributes to maternal-fetal tolerance

Yi Sun, Suwen Wu, Qiongjie Zhou, Xiaotian Li

Summary: Trophoblasts secrete IL9 to regulate immune cells, such as CD14+ dendritic cells and naive CD4+ T cells, contributing to maternal-fetal tolerance. IL9 promotes the secretion of Th2 cytokines and inhibits the Th1/Th2 ratio, playing a crucial role in maintaining immune balance during pregnancy.

Characteristics and Moisture Sources of the Stable Isotopes in Precipitation at the Monsoon Marginal Region of North-Central China

Yiping Zhang, Junliang Xu, Yafei Yan, Wei Su, Pengfei Luo, Hongfei Yu

Summary: Stable isotopes in precipitation are important for understanding the hydrological cycle and paleoclimatic reconstruction. A study in China's monsoon marginal region found that precipitation in this area is mainly sourced from the ocean surface transported via monsoons. The stable isotopes can be potentially utilized to reconstruct the precipitation signals in this region based on isotopic signature effects and moisture transport changes.

Intra-Annual Growth and Its Response to Climatic Factors of Two Salix Species under Warm Temperate Environment

Yiping Zhang, Pengfei Luo, Junliang Xu, Jiayu Hou, Lexin Zhai

Summary: Monitoring the cambial activity and intra-annual growth dynamics of two willow species, Salix babylonica and Salix matsudana, revealed similar wood formation processes. Salix babylonica exhibited wider xylem increment and higher growth rate compared to Salix matsudana. Both temperature and water availability played important roles in influencing xylem growth, with Salix matsudana being more sensitive to temperature changes.
