Summary: The study found that FABP4 may serve as a biomarker of breast cancer growth, while both FABP4 and the MMP-9/NGAL complex may provide important information on the development of specific breast cancer subtypes, particularly in postmenopausal breast cancer patients with obesity.

Summary: Bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) is a chronic lung disease in premature infants characterized by interrupted alveologenesis and alveolar simplification due to oxygen therapy. The study found that the FABP4 inhibitor BMS309403 can regulate pulmonary fibrotic processes in newborn rats exposed to hyperoxia, reducing lung fibrosis and expression of TGF-beta 1. The inhibition of FABP4 showed potential clinical and therapeutic applications in attenuating hyperoxia-induced lung impairments.

Summary: Current clinical research suggests that fatty acid-binding protein 4 inhibitors (FABP4is) have potential in treating cancer and other illnesses. Optimizing the structure of a series of FABP4is led to the discovery of 14e as the most potent analog with IC50 = 1.57 μM, suggesting it as a potential candidate for further in vivo studies.

Summary: The study found that the maternal serum zinc levels were significantly lower in pre-eclamptic women compared to normotensive pregnant women, suggesting a potential association between zinc and the development of pre-eclampsia. However, the specific role of zinc in the pathogenesis of pre-eclampsia needs to be confirmed in large-scale clinical trials.

Summary: This study aimed to identify the most promising biomarker candidates for clinical implementation in existing pre-eclampsia (PE) models among women with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM). The study found that higher levels of HbA1c and urinary albumin in the first trimester were associated with an increased risk of PE development in women with T1DM. Additionally, urinary neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin and adipokines were identified as novel biomarkers with moderate predictive ability before 15 weeks of gestation. Furthermore, two T1DM-specific PE prediction models were proposed, which measured adipokines or urinary neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin along with maternal clinical characteristics. Contradicting previous literature, the study found correlations between PE risk in women with T1DM and vitamin D levels and atherogenic lipid profile in the context of haptoglobin phenotype 2-2.

Summary: This study explored the role of FABP4 in endometrial cancer (EC) and found that FABP4 can suppress tumor growth and metastasis through inhibiting the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway. These findings provide new insights into the potential therapeutic target for the treatment of EC.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of aspirin in preventing pre-eclampsia in women with pre-existing diabetes. The results showed no significant differences in pre-eclampsia and placental insufficiency between the aspirin and control groups, but the aspirin group had a higher risk of postpartum hemorrhage. Early pregnancy HbA1c may serve as a novel risk stratification tool for predicting pre-eclampsia in women with pre-existing diabetes.

Summary: Adipose tissue hypertrophy during obesity has various effects on health, and the expandability of adipose tissue depends on the size and number of adipocytes. The accumulation of lipids as triglycerides in mature adipocytes is regulated by lipid uptake and lipolysis. This study aims to understand the mechanisms involved in fat mass regulation through fatty acid/FAT-CD36 signaling.

Summary: The study found that the level of plasma FABP4 in CRC patients was significantly higher than that in the control group, and was related to tumor TNM staging and lymph node metastasis, independent of age, BMI, tumor size and location, and CRC differentiation degree. High VFA and LPA were identified as risk factors for increasing plasma FABP4 levels in CRC patients. FABP4 was highly expressed in CRC tissues and associated with TNM staging, differentiation, and lymph node metastasis of CRC.

Summary: Ordinary small molecule de novo drug design is time-consuming and expensive. Computational tools, such as molecular dynamics (MD) simulations and steered molecular dynamics (SMD), have shown promise in accelerating the drug design process. In this paper, we applied SMD to evaluate the binding properties of small molecules with FABP4, which is of interest for inhibiting FABP4 and has therapeutic potential in treating cancer and other diseases.

Summary: This study explored the relationships between carbohydrate intake, BMI, and glycaemic control in pregnant women with type 1 diabetes. The findings suggest that the average quantity of dietary carbohydrate influences HbA1c, while BMI has less impact. Additionally, differences were observed in fibre and glycaemic index in relation to glycaemic control.
