Summary: The study analyzed records of nearly 1000 intestinal failure patients over 36 years in the UK's largest IF centre. The demand for home PS is increasing, with a rise in IF caused by surgical complications and a decrease in IF due to inflammatory bowel disease. Complications of home PS have reduced over the last 30 years, and the 10-year survival rate for patients with non-malignant causes has improved.

Summary: This study investigates the association of human leukocyte antigen (HLA) with familial and non-familial systemic sclerosis (SSc) patients. The results reveal that HLA DRB1*11 is associated with increased risk of SSc, while DRB1*12 is associated with reduced risk. Furthermore, the study suggests that HLA alleles may serve as common genetic risk factors in different autoimmune diseases.

Summary: This study compared voice outcomes of patients with unilateral vocal fold palsy who underwent either nonselective laryngeal reinnervation or Type 1 thyroplasty in a Malaysian tertiary center. The results showed that LR group had significant improvement in VHI-10 and MPT at 12 months compared to the thyroplasty group. Other outcome measures did not reveal significant differences between the two groups.

Summary: This study investigated the prevalence of laryngomalacia and synchronous airway lesions in infants, as well as their impact on surgical decision-making and feeding difficulties. The study found a significant relationship between type 2 laryngomalacia and the need for surgical intervention. Type 2 was also associated with an increased incidence of feeding difficulties. Type 1 laryngomalacia was more common in premature infants. Synchronous airway lesions were suspected to modify the severity and course of laryngomalacia.

Summary: This retrospective study analyzed bronchoscopy findings and clinical outcomes during percutaneous dilation tracheostomy (PDT). Unexpected endotracheal or endobronchial masses were discovered in a significant proportion of patients with chronic respiratory failure during PDT, and a high rate of weaning failure was noted in these patients. Completing bronchoscopy during PDT may offer additional clinical benefits.

Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed the clinical course, disease progression, survival outcomes, and long-term sequelae of pediatric patients with symptomatic OPGs in our institution over the past thirty years. The results showed that although the 5-year survival rate was high, there were many long-term side effects, including radiation-induced second malignant brain tumors.

Summary: This study evaluated the effectiveness of the SingularityTM Air laryngeal mask in a clinical setting and found that it had a high insertion success rate and stable oropharyngeal leak pressure. However, manual ventilation took slightly longer compared to other masks, and patients experienced temporary side effects.

Summary: This study reports 6 cases of duodenal strongyloidiasis, highlighting the importance of histopathology. Most patients were clinically unsuspected, making duodenal biopsy the first step in diagnosis. Hepatobiliary manifestations were rare but should raise suspicion for strongyloidiasis, warranting the need for duodenal biopsy.

Summary: This retrospective study of 162 patients undergoing PTGBD between 2010 and 2020 demonstrates promising clinical success rates in the treatment of acute cholecystitis, with PTGBD being a definitive treatment in a significant percentage of cases. However, the severity of gallbladder inflammation, particularly in grade III cases, plays a decisive role in clinical outcomes, with low success rates and high mortality rates to be considered.
