Summary: The transdifferentiation from cardiac fibroblasts to myofibroblasts is a crucial step in the development of cardiac fibrosis. However, the mechanism behind this process is not fully understood. In this study, we identified a novel circular RNA called circ-sh3rf3, which was down-regulated in isoproterenol-treated rat cardiac fibroblasts and cardiomyocytes as well as during fibroblast differentiation into myofibroblasts. We further revealed that circ-sh3rf3 could interact with GATA-4 proteins and regulate the expression of miR-29a, thereby inhibiting fibroblast-myofibroblast differentiation and myocardial fibrosis.

Summary: This study aims to explore the role and mechanism of circ-IARS in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) progression. Results showed that circ-IARS was upregulated in NSCLC cells, tissues, and serum exosomes from NSCLC patients. circ-IARS could sponge miR-1252-5p to modulate the expression of the downstream gene HDGF. In addition, exo-circ-IARS promoted H460 cell proliferation, migration, and invasion and inhibited cell apoptosis. Silencing circ-IARS retarded tumor growth of NSCLC cells in vivo. Thus, circ-IARS, secreted by exosomes, was a novel oncogene in NSCLC and regulated the malignant development of NSCLC cells via circ-IARS/miR-1252-5p/HDGF competing endogenous RNA regulatory axis.

Summary: This study found that in patients with major depressive disorder, the expression levels of miR-146a in exosomes were higher, and patients who achieved remission showed lower levels of various microRNAs before treatment and increased levels after treatment. Let-7e, miR-145, and miR-146a showed acceptable discrimination between the remission and non-remission groups.

Summary: Early HCC diagnosis is challenging, especially for AFP-negative cases. miRNA profiles may serve as potential molecular markers for HCC. This study aimed to evaluate the expression levels of four miRNAs (hsa-miR-21-5p, hsa-miR-155-5p, hsa-miR-192-5p, and hsa-miR-199a-5p) as biomarkers for HCC in CHCV patients with liver cirrhosis, particularly AFP-negative HCC cases.

Summary: EXO-miRNAs have the potential to be used as biomarkers for diabetic HFpEF. The study found that miR-30d-5p and miR-126a-5p were associated with HFpEF, and may be important for the development of diagnostic tools for diabetic HFpEF.

Summary: This study reveals that circ-TRIO plays a crucial role in TNBC and is associated with the recurrence and prognosis of TNBC patients. The findings demonstrate that knockdown of circ-TRIO inhibits the proliferation, migration, and invasion of TNBC cells, while overexpression of circ-TRIO has the opposite effects. Mechanistically, circ-TRIO interacts with miR-432-5p to regulate the expression of CCDC58.

Summary: This study aimed to develop potential biomarkers for rheumatoid arthritis (RA) by sequencing small non-coding RNA (sncRNA) in circulating exosomes. The expression levels of hsa-miR-335-5p and hsa-miR-486-5p were found to be higher in RA patients compared to healthy controls, while the expression of the SRSF4 gene was decreased. These findings suggest that circulating exosomal miRNAs and SRSF4 could serve as valuable biomarkers for RA.

Summary: This study evaluated the role of hsa-miRNA-21-5p in the development of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) patients. The expression of hsa-miRNA-21-5p was found to increase with NAFLD severity and was associated with hepatic lipotoxicity. Inhibition of hsa-miRNA-21-5p was shown to prevent the progression of NAFLD to NASH and HCC.
