Virtual reality has impacted education, where progressively more educational institutions consider its inclusion. The research problem derives from the need to study the educational possibilities provided by integrating augmented reality into the curriculum, and its effect on academic achievement in a diverse class, specifically in the chemistry subject. This study examines 60 school-age participants with and without special educational needs, and addresses three overarching questions: (a) Would integrating augmented reality (AR) technology result in better academic achievement? (b) Would knowledge be retained longer by using AR? (c) Is there any relationship between academic achievement, acceptance and motivation regarding the use of this technology? Embracing the socio-constructivist theory of learning and collaborative and immersive learning as a framework, this study was carried out using a quantitative approach and a pre-experimental design. The AR VR Molecules Editor application was used in chemistry lessons. Main results showed significant immediate academic achievement and content retention. Despite classroom diversity, immersive technologies enhance students' learning regardless of whether they have special educational needs (SEN) or not. They also acknowledge that AR is a suitable sustainable technology that may foster social and cognitive justice and inclusive education, and train students that are equally prepared for the dynamic future.

Measuring stimulation and cognitive reactions in middle schoolers after using immersive technology: Design and validation of the TINMER questionnaire

Francisco Javier Sandoval-Henriquez, Maria Graciela Badilla-Quintana

Summary: This study analyzed a questionnaire measuring the stimuli and cognitive reactions inherent in Immersive Technology, finding a latent structure with 16 items underlying the latent variables of interactivity, presence, and flow after administering it to 231 middle school students. The questionnaire, named TINMER, showed a satisfactory level of reliability (0.85), providing guidelines for its use to enhance the potential of Immersive Technology in learning experiences.

Students' Immersive Experience in Initial Teacher Training in a Virtual World to Promote Sustainable Education: Interactivity, Presence, and Flow

Maria Graciela Badilla-Quintana, Francisco Javier Sandoval-Henriquez

Summary: The virtual world technology has created numerous opportunities for teaching and learning, with this study examining how preservice teachers experience and participate in a virtual world that simulates a university campus. The study considered three main components: interactivity, sense of presence, and state of flow, showing high agreement with the survey's affirmations and positive associations among these technological properties. Guidelines are provided to further explore the potential of virtual worlds and design pedagogical activities in these environments.

Summary: This study analyzes the self-perception changes of teachers in the context of the pandemic and the curricular needs suggested by the Chilean Ministry of Education.
