Summary: As people age, foot disorders become more common and can lead to various issues such as falls, lower limb ulcers, and pain. Regular foot examinations are essential for detecting problems and preventing falls in older adults. While foot pain and pathologies are prevalent, regular foot care can help alleviate these issues and improve overall foot health in the elderly.

Summary: With an aging population, the concept of multimorbidity has gained interest, particularly in relation to frailty. This study aimed to assess the association between the VES-13 score, a widely used measure of frailty, and common diseases in hospitalized adults aged 60 and above. The study found that certain conditions such as diabetes, coronary artery disease, and depression were associated with higher frailty scores, while lipid disorders and gastrointestinal diseases were associated with lower frailty risk.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between multimorbidity, traumatic events, and frailty in older adults, finding that frailty is associated with having two or more chronic diseases, experiencing a serious illness, and having a loved one experiencing a serious illness.

Summary: This study found an association between chronic pain and slower foot reaction time in older adults, with pain severity and knee pain being linked to slower foot reaction time. Cognitive measures had little impact on this relationship, and it was only observed in participants with lower education levels. These findings suggest that chronic pain may increase fall risk in older adults by affecting foot reaction time.

Summary: This study reviewed the existing definitions of psychological frailty and provided a comprehensive overview of the concept and associated measurements. Psychological frailty is a complex concept whose definition lacks consensus and may include both psychological and physical features. Future research can further refine the concept of psychological frailty.

Summary: Preventive nutritional management of frailty may reduce adverse health-related outcomes in older adults. A novel measure combining physical frailty with nutritional imbalance, known as nutritional frailty, was found to be a better predictor of all-cause mortality compared to physical frailty alone or cognitive frailty.

Summary: This article presents a method for long-term daily frailty monitoring using an in-shoe motion sensor. By constructing a lightweight and interpretable hand grip strength estimation model and designing a frailty risk score that combines gait speed, the study achieved monitoring and assessment of frailty. The research discovered new gait predictors for hand grip strength estimation via in-shoe motion sensors and successfully built a highly effective model.

Summary: In order to better understand and evaluate the safety and effectiveness of drugs in older adults, it is necessary to increase the representation of older adults in clinical trials, eliminate barriers and set enrollment goals, and obtain various relevant data during trials to guide dosing decisions and reduce risks. Additionally, trial data should be analyzed to assess differences caused by age or common conditions, and drug labels should be updated throughout the product lifecycle.

Summary: This study utilized machine learning methods to identify factors contributing to the early trajectory from good health to pre-frailty in middle aged and older adults. Physiological, social, and lifestyle variables were found to be associated with pre-frailty outcomes. Machine learning models indicated that high BMI, low muscle mass, poor grip strength and balance, emotional distress, poor sleep quality were linked to pre-frailty.

Summary: The use of Triclosan 0.5% by scrubbing does not meet the criteria for surgical hand preparation (SHP) according to UNE-EN12791. However, using Triclosan 0.5% by scrubbing followed by hand rubbing with 70% ethanol is suitable, although it does not provide sustained effect. Therefore, the use of Triclosan in SHP should be avoided due to restrictions on its use in consumer antiseptic products.

Summary: This study aimed to provide appropriate footwear recommendations for different situations and patients. Footwear alterations can lead to musculoskeletal disorders, foot ulcers, increased plantar pressure, bacterial growth, and low back pain. The assessment tool showed good test-retest reliability and applicability, with no significant differences between most domains except for forefoot height.

Summary: The use of new technology in racing shoes has been shown to improve the performance of runners, especially in terms of oxygen consumption. However, there is still a lack of understanding about which specific features of the shoes can decrease oxygen consumption during running. This study aimed to determine the influence of footwear features, such as shoe mass, cushioning system, longitudinal bending stiffness, and comfort feeling, on running economy.

Summary: The objective of this study was to evaluate the levels of physical and mental health and anxiety-depressive symptomatology among a group of Galician inmates, and if these were influenced by their sports practice. The results showed that those who engaged in physical activity during their incarceration had better physical and mental health and lower levels of anxiety and depression. The study also found a negative association between perceived health levels and anxiety-depressive symptoms, with perceived physical health explaining 35% of the variance in perceived mental health. These findings highlight the importance of promoting physical activity in penitentiary institutions.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effects of prophylactic ankle taping on balance, knee valgus, and ankle range of motion in healthy participants. The results showed that ankle taping led to an increase in knee valgus and a decrease in lower limb balance. Therefore, prophylactic ankle taping is not recommended for healthy individuals due to the increased risk of injury.
