Summary: The diagnosis and treatment of cancer can cause physical and psychological impairment, and side effects may limit treatment effectiveness. However, studies have shown that physical activity and exercise therapy are feasible and recommended for cancer patients. Additionally, combining nutrition therapy and physical activity can prevent and reduce treatment-related side effects. Evidence-based recommendations for cancer prevention through nutrition therapy and exercise should be integrated into treatment plans and healthcare services.

Summary: This systematic review summarizes the available evidence on the effectiveness of supportive care interventions in improving quality of life and symptom experience for individuals living with metastatic breast cancer. Among the 13 studies included, 3 reported significant improvement in quality of life, and 2 reported improved symptoms. Additionally, 3 physical activity interventions showed improvement in at least one symptom. Therefore, multimodal and frequently administered interventions are effective in improving quality of life and symptom experience.

Summary: This study analyzed the relationship between supportive care needs (SCNs), satisfaction with quality of life (QoL) dimensions, and the perceived importance of these dimensions among 152 cancer patients receiving palliative care. The results showed that the greatest SCNs were observed for absence of pain, while the patients were least satisfied with their physical functioning and the dimension social relationships received the highest perceived importance ratings.

Summary: The direct toxicity of cancer treatment poses risks to patients and survivors, including an increased risk of cardiovascular disease. Integrating a comprehensive cardiac rehabilitation model with telehealth interventions can help mitigate these risks. Despite barriers and limitations, telehealth interventions have shown feasibility and acceptability in cardio-oncology rehabilitation and can provide physiological and psychological benefits for cancer patients and survivors.

Summary: This study investigated moderators of response to a physical activity behavior change intervention for breast cancer survivors. The results showed that breast cancer survivors who received chemotherapy, were within 2 years of diagnosis, and were single were less likely to achieve moderate-to-vigorous physical activity of 150+ weekly minutes. Further research is needed to determine additional support and resources that may benefit these subgroups of breast cancer survivors.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to test the effectiveness of a virtual assistant called Nurse AMIE in addressing symptoms in metastatic breast cancer patients. In a partial crossover randomized trial, the intervention group received the intervention for 6 months, while the comparison group was unexposed for the first 3 months and then exposed for 3 months. Although there were high levels of acceptability, feasibility, and satisfaction, the intervention did not have statistically significant effects on symptoms, quality of life, or function.

Summary: This study aims to determine the cut-off scores for the use of EORTC QLQ-C30 in identifying the need for support in young adult cancer patients. The results showed that, except for the Financial Difficulties scale, the other scales had adequate sensitivity. These cut-off scores will help interpret and use EORTC QLQ-C30 in routine care.

Summary: This study aims to explore the factors that could affect the overall quality of life (QoL) of cancer patients in Saudi Arabia. The study found that factors such as female sex, visiting a psychiatrist, taking psychiatric medications, anxiety, depression, and distress were associated with poorer QoL. On the other hand, biological treatment and satisfaction with health care were associated with better QoL. The study suggests the need for more programs and interventions to improve social services for cancer patients and to address the social difficulties they face.

Summary: The study aimed to observe the impact of oral health on functional status in stroke patients undergoing neurorehabilitation. Significant improvements in functional scales were noticed, but there were no relevant changes in most dental parameters after the study. The research highlighted the interdependence between physical functioning and oral health, showing that poor oral health status may be associated with inpatient rehabilitation outcomes in stroke patients.

Summary: The activity and metabolic products of xanthine oxidase (XO) in saliva were found to be significantly higher in ischemic stroke patients compared to hemorrhagic stroke patients and healthy controls. Evaluating the XO-specific activity in saliva can differentiate between ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke with high sensitivity and specificity. Saliva collection is a non-invasive and convenient method, making it a potential tool for monitoring and evaluating cerebrovascular diseases.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effects of augmented-reality-based rehabilitation exercises on patients with high-grade glioma (HGG). The results showed that there were no significant changes in the exercise group, but the control group experienced a significant decrease in handgrip strength and attention. No significant changes were observed in quality of life (QoL), fatigue, brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), or S100 protein levels in either group. Therefore, augmented-reality-based exercise may help prevent muscle strength and attention loss in HGG patients during radiation therapy.
