Inosine 5 ' -monophosphate dehydrogenase type II (IMPDH2) is an important enzyme involved in the biosynthesis of guanine nucleotides. Therefore, the present study aimed to investigate the potential and molecular mechanism of IMPDH2 in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Reverse transcription-quantitative PCR and immunohistochemistry were used to detect IMPDH2 expression levels in NSCLC tissues and cells. A Cell Counting Kit-8 assay, colony formation assay, flow cytometry, wound healing, Transwell assay, western blotting and immunofluorescence analyses were utilized to identify the effects of upregulated IMPDH2 levels on NSCLC cells. The expression levels of IMPDH2 have been discovered to be upregulated in several types of human cancer; however, the biological and clinical value of IMPDH2 in NSCLC remains unclear. The results of the present study revealed that the expression levels of IMPDH2 were significantly upregulated in NSCLC tissues. Furthermore, the genetic knockdown of IMPDH2 significantly hindered the proliferation, apoptosis, invasion, migration and epithelial-mesenchymal transition of NSCLC cells, whereas the overexpression of IMPDH2 achieved the opposite results. In addition, the results of the present study demonstrated that the inhibition of IMPDH2 inhibited the Wnt/beta -catenin signaling pathway by decreasing the expression levels of Wnt3a and beta -catenin, while increasing the expression levels of phosphorylated glycogen synthase kinase-3 beta in NSCLC cells. These findings of the present study indicated that IMPDH2 may promote NSCLC progression by activating the Wnt/beta -catenin signaling pathway, which suggested that IMPDH2 may be a novel therapeutic target for patients with NSCLC.

Guanghui Yang, Jiaqiang Yang, Sheng Li, Haseeb Hussain

Summary: Fault localization is critical for multiphase machines, and reliable fault diagnosis strategy is essential. This article proposes a simple and efficient open-switch fault detection strategy that can locate any combinations of open-switch faults. The strategy detects the faulty phases first and then determines the faulty switches based on the direction of current vectors in the harmonic plane. Experimental results validate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Analysis of Contra-Rotating Brushless Integrated Flux-Modulation Machine With Open-Slot Structure for Wind Power Generation

Libing Cao, Guanghui Yang, Yuefei Zuo, Yaojie He, Chenhao Zhao, Shuangchun Xie, Christopher H. T. Lee

Summary: This article introduces a CR-BIFM machine with an open-slot structure for wind power generation. The machine utilizes two CR rotors coupled with two sets of wind turbine blades, capturing more wind energy compared to single-rotor turbines. Due to its dual-flux-modulation effect, the CR-BIFM machine exhibits high torque/power density, making it suitable for direct-drive wind power generation. The advantages of the machine, such as higher efficiency and permanent magnet utilization, are comprehensively evaluated and validated with a prototype.

Effects of external electric field on the structural and electronic properties of SeZrS/SeHfS van der Waals heterostructure: A first-principles study

Guang-Hui Yang, Jian-Min Zhang, Yu-Hong Huang, Xiu-Mei Wei

Summary: The effects of external electric field on the SeZrS/SeHfS heterostructure were studied using first-principles calculations. It was found that an external electric field can transform the type-I band alignment to type-II, leading to spatial separation of electron-hole pairs in different monolayers. The linear variations of the band gap with external electric fields are attributed to the redistribution of electron concentration and shifting of quasi-Fermi levels and band edge positions. These findings demonstrate the potential applications of the SeZrS/SeHfS heterostructure in field effect transistors and optoelectronic devices.

Guanghui Yang, Sheng Li, Haseeb Hussain, Jian Zhang, Jiaqiang Yang

Summary: The development of multiphase drives has accelerated and fault-tolerance has been extensively studied. Traditional SVPWM causes torque ripple during open-circuit faults, affecting fault-tolerant performance. This work proposes a novel SVPWM fault-tolerant strategy for seven-phase induction machine, providing insight into voltage vector reconstruction and enabling generality for different fault-tolerant principles. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Design and Analysis of Universal Natural Fault-Tolerant SVPWM Strategy With Simplified Fault Diagnosis for Multiphase Motor Drives

Guanghui Yang, Haseeb Hussain, Sheng Li, Xiaojun Zhang, Jiaqiang Yang, Christopher H. T. Lee

Summary: Conventional space vector pulsewidth modulation (SVPWM) degrades performance of multiphase motor drives under open-phase fault. Existing solutions require reconfiguration of transformation matrices, making industrial implementation difficult. This study proposes a fault-tolerant SVPWM strategy that offers natural fault tolerance, simplified fault detection, minimum reconfiguration, torque ripple-free operation, and applicability to various open-phase faults using a single-transformation matrix. The proposed approach eliminates redundant controllers and reduces difficulty of fault diagnosis. Experimental evaluation demonstrates that torque ripple can be reduced by approximately 40% compared to conventional SVPWM strategy in the presence of multiple faults.
