Summary: The use of disposable tips (DPX) for extraction of Yb in liquid waste samples using bioabsorbent cork and analysis by HR-CS GF AAS was evaluated. The optimal conditions for temperature, acid selection, and pH were determined, and recoveries close to 100% were achieved for residual and drinking water samples. Interference tests were performed, and the LOQ and LOD were estimated at 0.03 and 0.01 μg L-1, respectively. The use of DPX allowed for extraction and preconcentration of Yb with a preenrichment factor of approximately 4 times.

Summary: An environment-friendly dust suppressant for dust control of urban road was developed using corn straw as raw material. The dust suppressant showed better anti-evaporation performance and effectively reduced the surface tension and contact angle compared to water, leading to effective adhesion of dust particles. The dust suppression efficiency for PM10 and PM2.5 was 93.7% and 91.5%, respectively, as observed in the simulated road spraying test.

Summary: The research investigated the concentrations of rare earth elements (REEs) in drill cuttings from oil and gas exploration wells in ultra deep coastal waters of Brazil at different depths. The study found that the concentrations of REEs in the drill cuttings varied at different depths, and statistical methods like principal component analysis (PCA) and hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA) could be used to identify similarities and trends between drill cutting samples at different depths. The study also suggested that drill cuttings could potentially serve as an alternative source for REEs extraction.

Summary: A method for multi-element determination in powder refreshment using ICP OES was proposed, with chemometric tools used to optimize sample preparation conditions and spectrometer operation. The reliability of the method was confirmed through addition and recovery tests and analysis of certified reference materials, with LOQ between 0.02 and 36 µg g(-1). The method was found to be adequate for the determination of inorganic constituents in powder refreshment samples.

Summary: In X-ray spectroscopic studies, K beta 1,3 lines have been used to examine the chemical states of 3d transition metals, but are not suitable for characterizing iron oxides. Instead, FeL-lines, which involve the valence shell 3d electrons, were inspected and found to provide information on the chemical states of iron. The study established a linear relationship between the chemical shift of FeL beta 1 line and spin multiplicity, allowing for the speciation of iron.
