A common misunderstanding in the nature of symmorphic space groups, often incorrectly defined as devoid of screw axes and glide planes, is pointed out and the origin of this misunderstanding is critically analysed. The features of symmorphic space groups are illustrated with concrete examples and a detailed classification is presented.
