The phenomenon of extraordinary light transmission through sub-wavelength-sized holes in noble metal films has attracted significant attention due to its potential applications in optical filters and plasmonic sensors. Herein, an Au nanohole-nanodisk hybrid array, which allows controllable extraordinary light transmission, is presented to detect the target analytes. A 3D electromagnetic simulation proves that the proposed plasmonic nanostructure array with its constant geometry can vary the light transmittance by altering the refractive index of the surrounding medium. As the refractive-index-dependent plasmon coupling between the Au nanohole and nanodisk can drastically enhance the light transmission, the Au nanohole-nanodisk hybrid array can be utilized as a sensitive and feasible plasmonic sensor.
