Summary: Recent evidence suggests that simple and inexpensive anthropometric measurements can help identify obese women at higher risk for developing metabolic syndrome. This study compared the accuracy of different adiposity and body composition indexes in identifying metabolic syndrome in a group of 876 women. The results showed that VAI and CMI performed the best in predicting metabolic syndrome, and these indexes were also the most sensitive and specific. This study highlights the usefulness of VAI and CMI in clinical practice for detecting metabolic syndrome in obese women.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between Chinese visceral adiposity index (CVAI) and hypertension and prehypertension, and compared its discriminative power with other adiposity indices in the Chinese population. The findings showed that CVAI was significantly associated with hypertension and prehypertension, and had superior discriminative ability compared to other indices.

Summary: The study showed that metabolic syndrome affects male sexual function, with participants having higher VAI scores experiencing poorer erectile function. However, other sexual functions remained similar. This highlights the importance of comprehensive metabolic and endocrinological evaluation for ED patients with metabolic syndrome.

Summary: This study investigated the associations between abdominal obesity indices and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). The study found that waist circumference, visceral obesity index (VAI), lipid accumulation (LAP), and Chinese VAI (CVAI) were associated with NAFLD. After adjusting for potential confounders, the moderate-rising and high-rising groups of CVAI had the highest risk of NAFLD. CVAI had the best diagnostic value for NAFLD.

Summary: Obesity, particularly visceral obesity, and metabolic syndrome (MetS) are major risk factors for type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and cancer. This study investigated the association of Fatty Liver Index (FLI) and Visceral Adiposity Index (VAI) as early predictors of MetS with gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (GEP-NETs), finding that MetS, NAFLD, and visceral adiposity dysfunction are correlated with the worsening of clinicopathological characteristics in GEP-NET.

Summary: There is no clear definition for metabolic syndrome, a condition characterized by coexisting visceral obesity, elevated lipids and glucose, and hypertension. This study aimed to determine the most suitable anthropometric indicators for diagnosing metabolic syndrome. The research found that CUN-BAE and Deuremberg indices were the most useful, followed by VAI.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the correlation between the Chinese visceral adiposity index (CVAI) and metabolic-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) in Chinese adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). The results showed that CVAI was positively correlated with MAFLD, suggesting that it could be used as a diagnostic indicator for MAFLD in clinical practice for T2DM patients.

Summary: This study showed that both high and low urinary sodium excretion were associated with increased risk of stroke, with high sodium intake being a stronger risk factor for intracerebral hemorrhage than ischemic stroke. Urinary potassium levels were inversely and linearly associated with stroke risk, especially for ischemic stroke. The combination of moderate sodium intake and high potassium intake was associated with the lowest risk of stroke.

Summary: The study investigated the prevalence of sarcopenia, obesity, and sarcopenic obesity in older adults, and the role of nutrition as a mediator in the association between these factors and frailty. The findings showed that sarcopenia and sarcopenic obesity were associated with frailty, while obesity itself did not have a direct impact on frailty. Nutritional status was found to be a mediator between age-related muscle loss and frailty.

Summary: This study investigated the association of lipoproteins and apolipoproteins with stroke in a standardized incident case-control investigation across 32 countries. The results showed that the association between dyslipidemia and stroke varied depending on the etiological subtype of stroke. Increased apoB and LDL-C were associated with an increased risk of ischemic stroke, while being associated with a reduced risk of intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). Higher HDL-C and apoA1 were associated with ischemic stroke and its subtypes, but HDL-C was associated with an increased risk of ICH and apoA1 was associated with a reduced risk. The ratio of apoB/A1 was the best predictor of ischemic stroke risk.

Summary: Cardiac causes, binge drinking, hypertension, increased waist-to-hip ratio, psychosocial stress, smoking, and certain lipid levels are important risk factors for ischemic stroke in individuals under 45 years of age. For intracerebral hemorrhage, only hypertension and binge drinking are significant risk factors in this age group. Summary: The COVID-19 pandemic has created financial impact on individuals worldwide, with high rates of job loss and inability to meet financial needs. Education level and wealth are associated with the degree of financial impact. Disparities exist in financial impact between high-income countries (HIC), upper-middle-income countries (UMIC), and lower-middle-income countries (LMIC), highlighting the importance of controlling the pandemic to reduce financial inequality and achieve sustainable development goals.
