Source rock evaluation within a sequence stratigraphic framework of the Palaeogene Liushagang Formation in the Fushan Depression, South China Sea

Bang Zeng, Meijun Li, Xin Wang, Fangzheng Wang, Chenglin Gong, Jin Lai, Yang Shi

Summary: This study investigates the geochemical features and spatial distribution of effective source rocks in the Fushan Depression using mudstone samples, well-logging curves, and seismic sections. The results show that the good hydrocarbon generation potential source rocks are mainly distributed in different systems tracts and their occurrence is controlled by thermal maturity. The southern slope has fewer hydrocarbon accumulations.

Jin Lai, Xiaojiao Pang, Meng Bao, Bing Wang, Jianan Yin, Guiwen Wang, Xuechun Fan

Summary: Diagenesis plays a significant role in controlling reservoir quality. This study investigated the diagenesis of Paleogene sandstones in the Bohai Bay Basin, China using various testing methods. The results reveal the diagenetic dissolution along bedding planes, with feldspar grains experiencing a high degree of dissolution. Grain size and bedding structure are important factors influencing the dissolution process. These findings contribute to a better understanding of diagenetic models and have implications for reservoir quality prediction and resource assessments.

The evolution of pore structure heterogeneity during thermal maturation in lacustrine shale pyrolysis

Ming Guan, Xiaoping Liu, Zhijun Jin, Jin Lai, Biao Sun, Panpan Zhang, Kefei Chen

Summary: This study investigates the variation of pore structure heterogeneity during thermal maturation in shale samples. It combines multifractal theory with nitrogen adsorption-desorption tests to determine the governing factors. The study finds that the increasing thermal maturity leads to changes in pore structure heterogeneity, influenced by the volume difference between different types of pores.

Centrifugally spun lignin fibers with high Cr(VI) adsorption capacity

Weipeng Pan, Ziyi Wang, Wenjuan Liu, Jian Lin

Summary: In this study, lignin fibers were prepared using a centrifugal spinning method to enhance its adsorption capacity for Cr(VI). The addition of sodium dodecyl sulfate and its subsequent dissolution during adsorption further improved the Cr(VI) adsorption capacity. These findings are significant for the application of lignin adsorbent materials in wastewater treatment.

Edge-Assisted Real-Time Video Analytics With Spatial-Temporal Redundancy Suppression

Ziyi Wang, Xiaoyu He, Zhizhen Zhang, Yishuo Zhang, Zhen Cao, Wei Cheng, Wendong Wang, Yong Cui

Summary: Driven by decreasing camera prices and advanced video inference algorithms, video cameras are widely used for live video analytics. However, real-time video analysis presents challenges to current network and computation systems. In order to balance accuracy, bandwidth usage, and latency, this study proposes EVA, an edge-assisted real-time video analytics framework. EVA utilizes computationally weak cameras and powerful edge servers to achieve video analytics with desired accuracy and latency. With the help of fine-grained transmission units and redundancy exploitation, EVA reduces bandwidth usage. Experimental results demonstrate that EVA achieves high accuracy while reducing bandwidth usage by up to 90% compared to recent baselines on various video genres.

Typical misinterpretations and scientific concepts in well-logging geologic studies

Jin Lai, Xiaojiao Pang, Xin Zhao, Yidi Zhao, Guiwen Wang, Yuyue Huang, Hongbin Li, Yuhang Li

Summary: The method and theoretical system of well logging geology have been widely used but there are frequent misunderstandings due to the different response sensitivity of different well logging series to geological information and the mismatching between geophysical properties of multiple well logs and geological genesis of rocks. It is crucial to analyze typical misunderstanding cases and explore scientific ideas and countermeasures.

Unconventional Water Use Allocation in Harbin, China

Hongcong Guo, Yingna Sun, Yun Teng, He Dong, Hui Li, Liquan Wang, Ziyi Wang, Jianwu Yang

Summary: In order to alleviate the burden on Harbin's water resources and improve the environment, it is important to analyze the key factors determining the use of unconventional water resources in the city and allocate them reasonably among different industries. This study uses a BP neural network model to predict the potential utilization of unconventional water resources in the planning year (2025), evaluates water-using industries using a gray correlation analysis model, and determines the main influencing factors and weights of key indicators through an unconventional water resource allocation scheme. The findings show a strong correlation between Harbin's investment and construction level, economic efficiency, cost, water demand level, social factors, and a low level of utilization of unconventional water resources in the city.

Bedding parallel fractures in fine-grained sedimentary rocks: Recognition, formation mechanisms, and prediction using well log

Jin Lai, Bing-Chang Liu, Hong-Bin Li, Xiao-Jiao Pang, Shi-Chen Liu, Meng Bao, Gui-Wen Wang

Summary: This study utilizes core, thin section, conventional, and image log data to investigate the distribution of fractures in the fine-grained sedimentary rocks of the Permian Lucaogou Formation in Jimusar Sag. The results reveal the presence of tectonic inclined fractures, bedding parallel fractures, and abnormal high-pressure fractures. Bedding parallel fractures are abundant but mostly sealed by carbonate minerals and bitumen. These fractures lead to a rapid decrease in resistivity and can be identified on image logs. The distribution of fractures aligns with bedding planes and is influenced by the density of bedding planes. This research provides valuable insights for optimizing sweet spots, improving fracturing designs, and optimizing well spacing in fine-grained sedimentary rocks.
