Summary: This study evaluated the validity and applicability of the GLIM criteria in diagnosing malnutrition in patients hospitalized for acute medical conditions. The results showed that the GLIM criteria were not superior to the SGA in terms of sensitivity and specificity, and they required more time to complete the assessment.

Summary: This study compared two nutrition assessment tools, NRS-2002 and SGA, in older hospitalized subjects, finding similar discriminatory abilities between well-nourished and malnourished individuals. Both tools were recommended for routine clinical practice in detecting malnutrition or risk of malnutrition.

Summary: This study aimed to measure the prevalence of malnutrition in adult hospitalized patients in Lebanon using the GLIM tool and explore the association between malnutrition and length of hospital stay. The study found that the prevalence of malnutrition risk was 31.2% according to NRS-2002 and 35.6% according to the GLIM criteria. Malnourished patients had a significantly longer length of hospital stay. The study recommends evidence-based interventions to address the underlying causes of malnutrition in Lebanese hospitals.

Summary: This study aimed to analyze the performance of GLIM criteria, SGA, and RFH-GA scores in predicting 12-mo mortality in patients awaiting liver transplantation. The GLIM criteria were found to be a good predictor of increased risk of mortality in malnourished patients with chronic liver disease awaiting liver transplantation.

Summary: Malnutrition has a negative impact on patients' quality of life and health outcomes. Early identification and adequate nutritional support are crucial in preventing and reversing malnutrition. Nutritional screening is the first step in identifying at-risk patients, while nutritional assessment provides a more detailed evaluation of the type and degree of malnutrition.

Summary: This meta-analysis shows that the Global Leadership Initiative on Malnutrition (GLIM) criteria are useful in predicting clinical and survival outcomes for cancer patients. The results indicate that GLIM-defined malnutrition is associated with poorer overall survival, disease-free survival, and postoperative complications in cancer patients.

Summary: This study evaluated the relationship between Malnutrition-sarcopenia syndrome (MSS) and all-cause mortality in hospitalised older Turkish people over two years. The results showed that MSS, sarcopenia, sarcopenia with malnutrition risk, and malnutrition groups were independently associated with higher mortality rates. MSS group had the highest hazard ratio and the worst survival curve among the study groups. Measures to prevent both sarcopenia and malnutrition are needed to reduce adverse health outcomes such as mortality in hospitalized older individuals.

Summary: Pre-frailty is a multidimensional risk state along the frailty continuum, potentially leading to frailty development, with factors including physical impairment, cognitive decline, nutritional deficiencies and socioeconomic disadvantages. Experts agree that pre-frailty is an age-associated, multi-factorial, multi-dimensional and non-linear process that does not inevitably lead to frailty, and targeted interventions can reverse or attenuate its development.

Summary: This study compared the ability of the Mini Nutritional Assessment-Short Form (MNA-SF) and the Mini Nutritional Assessment-Long Form (MNA-LF) to predict mortality in geriatric outpatients. It found that MNA-SF can effectively predict short-term and long-term mortality in these patients. Therefore, screening all geriatric outpatients for malnutrition and especially the risk of malnutrition is crucial for early intervention and treatment.

Summary: Impaired nutrition is associated with reduced muscle mass, strength, and physical performance. Chewing ability is essential for balanced nutrient intake. This study found a relationship between chewing ability and sarcopenia, with age and grip strength affecting chewing ability in females and cognitive scores and gastrocnemius muscle thickness affecting chewing ability in males.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the potential role of shear-wave elastography (SWE) in evaluating muscle quality and assess its association with muscle strength and mass. The results showed that the SWE measurement (V-mean) was significantly associated with handgrip strength (HGS), and this study is the first to reveal that SWE is a good predictor of muscle strength.
