The study evaluated color matching of universal composite restorations performed in anterior teeth using two evaluation methods. Omnichroma showed the highest Delta E in photographic analysis and received the highest scores in visual analysis. There were no differences in color matching for different tooth shades for all composites.
Objective To evaluate color matching of universal composite restorations performed in anterior teeth using two evaluation methods. Materials and Methods Sixty class III preparations were made on denture central incisors with different shades (A1-A3) and restored with multishade (Tetric Evoceram, Filtek Universal, and TPH Spectra Universal) and single-shade (Omnichroma) universal composites (n = 5). For photographic analysis, a digital photograph of each specimen was taken under standardized set-up. Color measurements were taken in the center of the restoration, and in the tooth surface 1.0 mm adjacent from the tooth/restoration margin. CIELab coordinates were recorded and color difference analysis (Delta E) was made using the CIEDE-2000 formula. For visual analysis, calibrated observers performed visual scoring of color matching and differences were graded as 0:excellent match; 1:very good match; 2:not so good match; 3:obvious mismatch; 4:huge mismatch. All data were statistically analyzed using a linear mixed model analysis with a confidence interval of 95%. Results For photographic analysis, Omnichroma showed the highest Delta Ecompared to the other composites for all shades (P< .05), without difference among experimental groups regarding tooth shade. For visual analysis, Omnichroma showed the highest scores (P< .05) for all teeth shades, without differences between the other groups. Furthermore, there were no differences between visual scores for different shades of a same resin composite group. Conclusions Multishade universal composites presented higher color matching than the single shade universal composite. There were no differences of color matching for different tooth shades for all composites. Clinical significance Universal composites with increased color matching may be helpful to simplify anterior restorations, minimizing clinical errors.

Summary: The present study evaluated the effect of directly administering parathormone (PTH) to the surface of implants prior to insertion using a large animal model. The results showed that the local application of different concentrations of PTH on the titanium implant's surface did not influence osseointegration at any time point evaluation in low-density bone.

Impact of implant thread design on insertion torque and osseointegration: a preclinical model

Ernesto B. Benalcazar-Jalkh, Vasudev Vivekanand Nayak, Christina Gory, Andres Marquez-Guzman, Edmara T. P. Bergamo, Nick Tovar, Paulo G. Coelho, Estevam A. Bonfante, Lukasz Witek

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of two implant designs with different thread profiles on osseointegration parameters. The results showed no significant differences in terms of bone to implant contact and bone area fraction occupancy within implant threads between the two designs at both 3-week and 6-week healing intervals. It was concluded that both thread profiles had equivalent potential for successful osseointegration, with the D2 design providing better mechanical stability upon placement.

Alumina-toughened zirconia nanocomposite: Aging effect on microstructural, optical, and mechanical properties

Summary: This study investigates the crystalline phases, microstructure, residual stress, mechanical and optical properties of an alumina-toughened zirconia (ATZ) nanocomposite before and after two different aging methods. The results show that higher phase transformation is observed after aging in a hydrothermal reactor. The optical properties remain unchanged after aging. The aging process increases the characteristic strength of the nanocomposite, but also makes it susceptible to hydrothermal degradation.

Ultrathin lithium disilicate and translucent zirconia crowns for posterior teeth: Survival and failure modes

Ernesto B. Benalcazar Jalkh, Ilana S. Ramalho, Edmara T. P. Bergamo, Larissa M. M. Alves, Ricardo Tanaka, Lukasz Witek, Paulo G. Coelho, Ronaldo Hirata, Estevam A. Bonfante

Summary: This study evaluated the reliability and failure modes of ultrathin (0.5 mm) lithium disilicate and ultra-translucent zirconia crowns for posterior teeth restorations. The results showed that the 0.5 mm lithium disilicate crowns had higher reliability under functional loads. Clinical Significance: Ultrathin lithium disilicate and zirconia crowns of 0.5 mm thickness may be indicated in anterior restorations and pre-molars. The indication of these crowns in high-load bearing regions must be carefully evaluated. Evaluation: 6/10.

Single geometry abutment for narrow and extra-narrow implant systems: Survival and failure modes

Eliezer Gutierres, Edmara Tatiely Pedroso Bergamo, Laura Firmo Carvalho, Paulo G. Coelho, Tiago Moreira Bastos Campos, Mariana Miranda de Toledo Piza, Adolfo Coelho de Oliveira Lopes, Ernesto Byron Benalcazar Jalkh, Estevam Augusto Bonfante

Summary: This study aims to evaluate the likelihood of survival and failure modes of extra-narrow implant systems with the same prosthetic components as standard-diameter implants. The results showed that using standardized prosthetic components for extra-narrow implants has a high probability of survival and a high characteristic strength, with failure modes restricted to the abutment. Therefore, this method can be a viable option for replacing anterior teeth.

Blaire V. Slavin, Quinn T. Ehlen, Joseph P. Costello, Vasudev Vivekanand Nayak, Estavam A. Bonfante, Ernesto B. Benalcazar Jalkh, Christopher M. Runyan, Lukasz Witek, Paulo G. Coelho

Summary: The field of cranio-maxillofacial (CMF) surgery is complex, and computer-aided design (CAD) and additive manufacturing (AM) offer opportunities for repairing CMF defects through 3D printed scaffolds and fixation devices. In vitro and in vivo studies are ongoing to optimize the design and composition of these scaffolds to promote bone regeneration. 3D printed anatomical models and surgical guides also have benefits for preoperative and intraoperative use. Extensive research, manufacturing capabilities, and regulatory oversight are required for the creation and implementation of these devices.

Joao Ricardo Almeida Grossi, Marcelo Parra, Ernesto B. Benalcazar-Jalkh, Allan Fernando Giovanini, Joao Cesar Zielak, Aline Monise Sebstiani, Carla Castiglia Gonzaga, Paulo G. Coelho, Lukasz Witek, Tatiana Miranda Deliberador

Summary: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of different concentrations of growth hormone (GH) on the early stages of osseointegration of endosteal implants. The results showed that a single local application of GH to the surface of titanium implants did not improve implant osseointegration, regardless of healing time.
