Filler injections are widely used for facial rejuvenation. The technique is safe as long as some precautions are respected. In this review we will focus on vascular anatomy in the upper, middle and lower face. We performed a PUBMED research on facial danger zones and filler injections and hyaluronic acid and vascular compromise with a focus on the last decade. This is of particular importance since vascular compromise is one of the most severe adverse events possibly leading to tissue necrosis and in rare cases to loss of vision. We describe the danger zones in these esthetic units and provide recommendations how to avoid severe adverse events. We report on temporal region, glabella and nose, infraorbital region, nasolabial folds and nasal triangle, lips, and chin. Although we focus on hyaluronic acid fillers, our recommendations will also scope other filler types and autologous adipose tissue transfer. We also take a closer look on innovations to improve the safety of facial filler injections. Facial rejuvenation with hyaluronic acid fillers is a popular method. It is safe if the facial danger zones are recognized and proper injection techniques and fillers are used.

A validated tool of combining risk factors with fecal immunochemical test for selecting colonoscopy in asymptomatic Chinese population

Yi Liao, Senmao Li, Hao Chen, Chunyu Chen, Jintuan Huang, Feng Lin, Jianping Wang, Zuli Yang

Summary: A risk prediction system combining FIT and risk factors was developed to improve the sensitivity of colonoscopy screening. The system effectively stratified participants into high risk and low risk groups, with better predictive ability for colorectal neoplasia compared to using FIT alone.

Imaging in the Diagnosis of Nonspecific Pyogenic Spondylodiskitis

Christoph Eckhard Heyde, Ulrich Josef Albert Spiegl, Anna Voelker, Nicolas von der Hoeh, Jeanette Henkelmann

Summary: The prevalence of nonspecific pyogenic spondylodiskitis has increased, causing high morbidity and mortality. The diagnosis is often delayed due to nonspecific clinical manifestations at the early stage. CT can assess the bony condition, while MRI is still the gold standard for diagnosis.

Hyaluronic Acid in Facial Rehabilitation-A Narrative Review

Uwe Wollina, Hristina Kocic, Alberto Goldman

Summary: This article provides a review of the use of hyaluronic acid fillers in esthetic medicine and facial rehabilitation. It discusses the correction of facial asymmetry and asymmetric lips, improvement of scars, enhancement of jaw line and ear lobes, restoration of periocular and oral areas, and treatment of nasal obstruction and morphea en coub de sabre. The use of fillers in these indications is associated with mild and temporary adverse events. Important advantages of hyaluronic acid fillers include the availability of hyaluronidase for rapid removal and the ability to revise overcorrection. Further controlled trials are needed to improve the evidence base.

Cavernous hemangioma of the lip: combined treatment with intralesional laser and surgery

Alberto Goldman, Uwe Wollina

Summary: This article reports a case of infantile cavernous hemangioma in an 11-year-old girl. The lesion, located in the median upper lip, was growing and painful on pressure, causing stigma to the patient. After careful examination, a combined treatment approach was suggested, including intralesional neodymium-YAG laser photocoagulation and complete surgical removal, followed by defect closure with muscle-cutaneous flaps. Follow-up showed satisfactory results without disfigurement or functional impairment.
