Summary: This study investigated the associations between self-efficacy, beliefs about others, and psychological and social outcomes in refugees. The results showed that exposure to potentially traumatic events was associated with lower self-efficacy and positive beliefs about others. Self-efficacy was negatively associated with depression and anger, while positive beliefs about others were positively associated with social engagement and depression symptoms.

Summary: This study examined the long-term development of PTSD symptoms and respiratory sequelae among COVID-19 patients after one year of hospital discharge. The cumulative occurrence of probable PTSD in COVID-19 survivors was 26.7%, but this significantly decreased over the course of 12 months. Non-severe patients showed significant improvement in all clusters of PTSD symptoms at 12 months compared to 3 months, while severe patients only showed improvement in some symptoms. Female gender and respiratory sequelae increased the risk for chronic PTSD. Psychological interventions are necessary for COVID-19 patients during long-term recovery.

Summary: The study found that in patients with typhoon-related PTSD, BLA had stronger connectivity with PFC and angular gyrus compared to the TEC group. Additionally, the TEC group showed decreased and increased BLA connectivity with vmPFC and PoCG, respectively, compared to the PTSD and HC groups. The PTSD group exhibited abnormal connectivity between BLA and STG, and connectivity between BLA and vmPFC showed a negative correlation with the severity of PTSD.

Summary: Individuals with PTSD experience intrusive traumatic memories, heightened arousal, and avoidance behavior. The key feature of successful treatment is the modification of unstable engrams during retrieval. Psychedelic psychotherapy may destabilize trauma-related engrams and facilitate change during therapy.

Summary: This study was the first to confirm that self-relevant and emotional processing differ between individuals with DID and controls, but remain consistent over time. The actors were unable to perfectly simulate DID. The ratings of self-relevant trauma-related words differed between subgroups included in the study and were in line with clinical observations. Self-relevant and emotional processing was identity state dependent and different between individuals with dissociative identity disorder and two control groups, but consistent over time.

Summary: The study identified differential predictors of birth-related PTSD symptoms in mothers and fathers, with factors like poorer subjective birth experience and unplanned cesarean section predicting symptoms in mothers, while factors like lower job satisfaction and higher job burden predicting symptoms in fathers. This highlights the importance of examining specific risk factors for PTSD in both parents to provide tailored prevention and treatment approaches.

Summary: Research suggests that bullying victimization and trauma are connected, and a developmental perspective is needed to understand the consequences of childhood bullying. Developmental trauma disorder and complex post-traumatic stress disorder may be more suitable for considering the consequences of bullying victimization, capturing the complexity of symptoms better than PTSD.

Summary: In this article, the currently recommended pharmacotherapy for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is reviewed and promising pharmacotherapies are discussed. These include the use of serotonergic psychedelics as adjunct therapies and glucocorticoids targeting the consolidation of fear memory. The article also highlights three factors impeding progress in pharmacotherapy development for anxiety disorders and PTSD: the lack of research on fear processing in female animal models, the poor implementation of knowledge on stress and fear circuitry into clinical practice, and the limited understanding of canonical fear circuitry. The functional link between interoceptive signals and emotion regulation is emphasized, and the potential of these signals for PTSD treatment, which often involves cardiovascular dysregulation, is discussed. A better understanding of the neurobiological mechanisms underlying fear processing is crucial for the development of sex- and developmental trauma-specific interventions and precision medicine for anxiety disorders and PTSD.

Summary: The literature shows connections between socioenvironmental characteristics, stress response system dysregulation, and PTSD, with limited studies integrating these factors into one model. A structural equation modeling analysis of SHOW data revealed a mediation relationship between socioenvironmental stress and PTSD through increased CBR, supporting them as valid latent constructs. While the association between CBR and PTSD was not statistically significant, socioenvironmental stress emerged as a significant predictor of PTSD and CBR.

Summary: Prior trauma history is a reliable predictor for PTSD development, and accurately measuring it is crucial in trauma-related research. A new weighted scoring method, based on the proximity of trauma exposure, has been proposed for the Life Events Checklist (LEC) to balance predictive strength and reliability. Results showed the weighted score is reliable and can provide a comprehensive estimate of lifetime trauma exposure emphasizing proximity to trauma exposure.

Summary: Many stress-related neuropsychiatric disorders show significant sex differences in terms of frequency and symptoms. Glucocorticoids, the primary stress hormones, have been implicated in the development of these disorders, but their contribution to the observed sex bias is poorly understood. This study investigates the effects of glucocorticoids on gene expression and behavior in the hippocampus, revealing sex-dependent and independent actions of glucocorticoids. The findings have important implications for the treatment of stress-related neuropsychiatric disorders in both men and women.
