Summary: This study evaluated the efficacy of CA125 combined with NT-proBNP in predicting AHF following STEMI. The results showed that elevated CA125 and NT-proBNP are independent predictors of AHF in STEMI patients, and their combination can improve the recognition efficiency of AHF.

Summary: Employment status prior to acute myocardial infarction is associated with long-term risk of mortality and recurrent MI. Patients who were not part of the workforce had a higher risk of death and new heart attacks following discharge compared to those who were part of the workforce.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the clinical characteristics of patients with acute myocardial infarction after gastrointestinal bleeding and found that patients with myocardial infarction after gastrointestinal bleeding were less likely to undergo invasive management and coronary revascularization, and had a higher mortality rate.

Summary: A global study found that depressive symptoms are an important risk factor for acute stroke, including both ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes. Preadmission depressive symptoms were significantly associated with a higher risk of acute stroke and poorer functional outcome at 1 month after stroke.

Summary: The COVID-19 pandemic has led to an increase in acute myocardial infarction (AMI)-associated mortality, particularly among younger individuals. Age and sex disparities in mortality rates persist even during the recent Omicron surge.

Summary: The study aimed to examine if a combined pre-procedural blood testing risk model can predict one-year mortality in AMI survivors. Results showed that several blood parameters were significantly associated with one-year mortality, and the risk score model based on these parameters was able to predict one-year mortality in AMI survivors effectively.

Summary: This study found an association between cardiovascular risk and increased risk of acute respiratory infection and acute cardiovascular events following acute respiratory infection. Individuals with cardiovascular risk may benefit from prioritization of influenza and pneumococcal vaccines to reduce the risk of respiratory infections and cardiovascular complications.

Summary: Acute coronary syndrome (ACS) is a common cause of death in individuals older than 55 years. Young individuals with ACS (yACS) have unique epidemiologic features and require specific prediction rules to improve time-dependent prediction metrics. By exploring temporal framing structures and using subgroup-specific prediction rules, the predictive accuracy for adverse clinical events in yACS can be optimized, leading to a higher detection rate compared to using rules designed for the global cohort.

Summary: Acute kidney injury (AKI) remains a common complication of acute myocardial infarction (AMI), negatively impacting the survival of patients. This study found that 16.4% of AMI patients developed AKI, and AKI was associated with higher mortality and increased risk of requiring hemodialysis.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate and revalidate the prognostic implications of strain analyses in ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) patients. The results showed that both atrial and ventricular strain values were significantly reduced in patients with major adverse cardiac events (MACE) and LA strain values especially enabled accurate risk assessment.

Summary: Residual cardiovascular risk following acute coronary syndrome is high, especially with comorbidities like heart failure, hypertension, renal disease, and diabetes. Increased burden of comorbidities is associated with a higher risk of major adverse cardiovascular events, highlighting the need for aggressive therapies to reduce risk.

Summary: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a common clinical arrhythmia associated with increased risk of death, stroke, and peripheral vascular embolism. Catheter ablation (CA) is an effective treatment, but a high recurrence rate remains a challenge. Identifying biomarkers for prediction of AF recurrence after CA is important for personalized treatment. Carbohydrate antigen 125 (CA-125) has been widely studied and may serve as a useful marker for AF.

Summary: This prospective cohort study explores the long-term outcomes after ischemic stroke (IS) and transient ischemic attack (TIA) and identifies factors associated with new events. The study finds that IS patients have a higher risk of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) and cardiovascular death compared to TIA patients. Factors such as age, kidney failure, prior IS, prior acute myocardial infarction (AMI), congestive heart failure, and impaired functional status are associated with an increased risk of MACE.
