Summary: This retrospective analysis studied risk factors for postendoscopic bacteremia in a tertiary center in Israel. Neutropenia, low albumin level, male gender, older age, preprocedure fever, and admitting department were associated with increased risk for bacteremia. However, the risk of postendoscopic bacteremia in neutropenic patients was not significantly different compared to other procedures or the background risk among neutropenic patients.

Summary: The study investigated the clinical outcomes of endoscopic removal of foreign bodies from the upper gastrointestinal tract and risk factors for adverse events. Patients were divided into two groups based on the shape of the foreign body. The study found that ingestion of fish bones was more common in coastal areas, while food boluses were more common in inland areas. Adverse events occurred in 31.2% of patients, with factors such as age, type of foreign body, location, and duration of impaction associated with adverse events. Early recognition and timely removal of foreign bodies, especially in elderly patients and those with sharp foreign bodies, may improve clinical outcomes.

Summary: Flexible endoscopy plays an important role in the diagnosis and treatment of postoperative complications after esophageal cancer surgery, offering effective therapy with minimal invasiveness. During the past 20 years, significant advancements have been made in endoscopic treatment techniques for anastomotic bleeding, anastomotic insufficiency, anastomotic stenosis, and delayed gastric emptying.

Summary: Bariatric surgery is associated with a reduced risk of cancer in individuals with obesity. This cohort study in France found that the incidence of esophageal and gastric cancer was significantly lower in patients who underwent bariatric surgery compared to those who did not. The overall in-hospital mortality rate was also lower in the surgical group.

Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed the medical records of 343 pediatric patients with Gross type C EA/TEF who underwent surgical repair, and found that closing the original TEF with ligation and hospital stay >= 28.5 days were significant risk factors of rTEF.

Summary: Esophageal mucosal bridge (EMB) is commonly seen in children with esophageal atresia (EA) and is associated with a history of nasogastric tube feeding and severe gastroesophageal reflux disease. Endoscopic management with electrocoagulation is a safe and effective treatment option.

Summary: The study evaluated the outcomes of intra-procedural deep mural injury (DMI) in large non-pedunculated colorectal polyps (LNPCPs) undergoing endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR). It found that significant DMI can be managed endoscopically with high success rates and does not impact technical success or recurrence.

Summary: This retrospective study on children with esophageal atresia found that patients with smaller anastomotic diameter post-surgery were more likely to require stricture resection, and that the number of dilations needed decreased as the anastomotic diameter increased.

Summary: This study assessed the diagnostic value of a second bite-on-bite biopsy for the detection of residual esophageal cancer and found that a second biopsy can improve the detection rate by almost 20 percentage points, but at the expense of increasing the false-positive rate by 3 percentage points.

Summary: This study investigated the risk factors for esophageal fistula (EF) in patients with recurrent esophageal cancer receiving re-radiotherapy. The results showed that age, T stage, ulcerative esophageal cancer, and the maximum thickness of the tumor were correlated with the prevalence of EF. These risk factors should be highly concerned in clinical work, and individualized treatment plans should be implemented to reduce the occurrence of EF.

Summary: Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is the sixth most common cause of death worldwide, with varying incidence rates internationally. This review aims to summarize the role of risk factors in ESCC development and propose future research directions. Risk factors were categorized into seven groups, including genetic, dietary, infection, and other potential risk factors yet to be fully explored. Further research on the validation of these results and their impact on tumor biology is crucial.

Summary: This study investigated the prevalence and characteristics of hepatic hemangiomas associated with coagulopathy, elucidating the causes of coagulopathy and identifying predictive factors for hemangioma-related complications. The results showed that the prevalence of hepatic hemangiomas associated with coagulopathy was relatively high and increased with tumor size. The predictive factors for complications were found to be tumor size >5 cm and coagulopathy, especially the elevation of d-dimer.

Summary: This study comprehensively analyzed the risk factors, clinical characteristics, endoscopic features, outcomes, and prognostic factors of CMV esophagitis. Findings showed that male sex, immunocompromised status, and critical illness were risk factors for CMV esophagitis. The major clinical presentations included epigastric pain, fever, dysphagia, and gastrointestinal bleeding. The CMV group had higher mortality rates and longer hospital stays compared to the non-CMV group. Acute kidney injury and intensive care unit admission were predictors of in-hospital mortality.

Summary: Systemic sclerosis is often associated with dysphagia and esophageal dysmotility. This study evaluated the association between dysphagia and esophageal dysmotility in patients with systemic sclerosis and identified risk factors. The results showed that dysphagia was associated with autoantibody positivity and older age, while there were no identified risk factors for esophageal dysmotility. No correlation was found between dysphagia and esophageal dysmotility.
