Summary: This study aimed to investigate the risk factors and severity of delayed gastric emptying (DGE) after gastrectomy. Female sex, diabetes, and distal gastric tumors were identified as independent risk factors for DGE. The DGE group had a longer hospital stay compared to the non-DGE group, and most DGE cases occurred after 1 week following surgery.

Summary: The study utilized a transgenic mouse line specific to EC cells to investigate the pathophysiologic roles of 5-HT deficiency in gastric motility. Findings indicated a new mechanism of 5-HT deficiency in idiopathic gastroparesis.

Summary: This study found a higher incidence of delayed gastric emptying (DGE) in patients undergoing pylorus-preserving pancreaticoduodenectomy (PpPD) compared to pylorus-resecting pancreaticoduodenectomy (PrPD) by a single surgeon. Pylorus preservation and clinically relevant postoperative pancreatic fistula were identified as risk factors for DGE.

Summary: This study aimed to identify the best predicting factors for delayed gastric emptying (DGE) and assess the response to treatment in children. The analysis showed that prior surgery was a key factor in predicting highly DGE. After 2 years, symptoms and medication usage significantly reduced.

Summary: This study indicates a link between duodenal microbiota, gastric emptying, and FD symptoms, and this link is largely independent of long-term dietary intake.

Summary: This study investigated the symptom patterns in distinguishing gastroparesis from functional dyspepsia. The results showed that patients with gastroparesis-like symptoms had a higher prevalence of delayed gastric emptying and higher symptom severity compared to patients with FD symptoms.

Summary: This study compared the clinical outcomes and incidence of delayed gastric emptying (DGE) between open and robotic-assisted pancreatoduodenectomy (PpPD) and found that the robotic approach was associated with a lower incidence of DGE and a shorter hospital stay.

Summary: This study aims to investigate the mechanism of delayed gastric emptying (DGE) after pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) by using body surface gastric mapping (BSGM) to assess gastric motility in postoperative PD patients. The study will be conducted at a large hepatobiliary unit in the UK, with 50 planned PD patients included. BSGM measurements will be performed at four timepoints and key parameters will be compared between different patient subgroups. Symptoms will be self-reported by patients during the recording using an iPad application, and quality of life and patient experience will be assessed using standardized questionnaires.

Summary: This study aimed to determine whether bit chewing can shorten the gastric emptying time (GET), small intestinal transit time (SITT), and total orocecal transit time (OCTT) in clinically normal horses. The results indicate that bit chewing significantly decreases OCTT, but has minimal effects on GET and SITT. Bit chewing may be a safe, inexpensive, and effective clinical treatment to improve small intestinal motility in horses.

Summary: A clinical trial compared the incidence and severity of DGE between classical Whipple and PPPD, finding no significant differences. In addition to DGE, there were no significant differences between the two surgical techniques in terms of postoperative complications, length of hospital stay, and nutritional status.

Summary: This study found an association between gastric emptying and sensations of appetite, with rapid gastric emptying being linked to increased appetite, which could contribute to weight gain.

Summary: The resistance of the pyloric channel is influenced by pressure gradient, flow behavior index, and channel diameter. Non-zero pressure difference is essential to drive flow through the channel, and the extent of pressure difference is linearly related to transpyloric flow rate. The resistive function of the pyloric channel is observed at a higher occlusion where there is a development of higher pressure barrier.

Summary: An 82-year-old man underwent outpatient nuclear medicine gastric-emptying scintigraphy for dysphagia and regurgitation. The scintigraphy showed delayed gastric emptying but subsequent CT scan and upper gastrointestinal fluoroscopy revealed normal stomach size and function, with an enormously dilated esophagus indicating achalasia. It is important to pay attention to the location and shape of the visualized stomach and recognize that a significantly dilated esophagus can mimic an elongated stomach during scintigraphy.

Summary: Research shows that gastric emptying abnormalities in diabetes can lead to postprandial dyspepsia and impaired plasma glucose regulation. Treatment should address whether the emptying is delayed or rapid.

Summary: The study indicated that intraoperative endoluminal pyloromyotomy during pylorus-preserving pancreaticoduodenectomy was associated with a reduced risk for delayed gastric emptying. Additionally, the presence of an intra-abdominal complication was identified as an independent risk factor for delayed gastric emptying.
