Mark Felix Juhasz, Zsofia Vereczkei, Klementina Ocskay, Lajos Szako, Nelli Farkas, Zsolt Szakacs, Noemi Zadori, Michael Wilschanski, Stephen J. Pandol, Francisca Joly, Gabriele Capurso, Paolo Giorgio Arcidiacono, Ferenc Izbeki, Laszlo Czako, Maria Papp, Laszlo Czopf, Peter Hegyi, Andrea Parniczky

Summary: This study aims to test the effect of reducing dietary fat on the recurrence of idiopathic acute pancreatitis (AP), and collect data on mortality, serum lipids, and weight loss. There are currently no preventive measures for idiopathic acute recurrent pancreatitis (ARP), but a low-fat diet is often recommended.

Paediatric Partial-Thickness Burn Therapy: A Meta-Analysis and Systematic Review of Randomised Controlled Trials

Aba Lorincz, Alex Varadi, Peter Hegyi, Zoltan Rumbus, Mate Tuba, Anna Gabriella Lamberti, Margit Varju-Solymar, Andrea Parniczky, Balint Eross, Andras Garami, Gergo Jozsa

Summary: This study conducted a meta-analysis to evaluate the effectiveness of different dressings for paediatric second-degree burn injuries. The results showed that biosynthetic, silver foam, and amnion membrane dressings were associated with faster healing times and reduced complication rates. The number of dressing changes also had an impact on pain, narcosis, and treatment duration. However, due to heterogeneity among studies, no significant difference was found in the main outcomes. Further research is needed to determine the most effective treatment for these burns.

Immunohistochemical Detection of the Presence of Vitamin D Receptor in Childhood Solid Tumors

Orsolya Juhasz, Noemi Jakob, Hajnalka Rajnai, Marcell Imrei, Miklos Garami

Summary: The study found that lower vitamin D receptor (VDR) expression is associated with worse prognosis in different types of childhood cancer. Identifying the VDR status provides clinicians with a valuable biomarker to guide additional therapy.

Inflammatory bowel disease does not alter the clinical features and the management of acute pancreatitis: A prospective, multicentre, exact-matched cohort analysis

Dora Dohos, Nelli Farkas, Alex Varadi, Balint Eross, Andrea Parniczky, Andrea Szentesi, Peter Hegyi, Patricia Sarlos

Summary: No significant differences in prognosis and severity of acute pancreatitis were found between patients with both inflammatory bowel disease and pancreatitis only. Therefore, different acute pancreatitis management is unnecessary in the presence of inflammatory bowel disease, and antibiotic overuse should be avoided.

Dyspepsia-Like Symptoms in Helicobacter pylori-Negative Chronic Gastritis are Associated with ASCA-, ANCA-, and Celiac Seropositivity but Not with Other Autoimmune Parameters: A Single-Centre, Retrospective Cross-Sectional Study

Noemi Zadori, David Nemeth, Levente Frim, Nora Vorhendi, Lajos Szako, Szilard Vancsa, Peter Hegyi, Jozsef Czimmer

Summary: Dyspeptic symptoms are common in the general population, resulting in a high socioeconomic burden. In patients with H. pylori negative chronic gastritis, there is a subset of patients who experience dyspeptic symptoms. Further investigation into the role of autoimmunity may help in developing optimal treatment strategies.

Adverse Reactions after Booster SARS-CoV-2 Vaccination Have Less Impact on Antibody Response than after Basic Vaccination Scheme

Andrea Kanizsai, Laszlo Zavori, Tihamer Molnar, Margit Tokes-Fuezesi, Zoltan Szalai, Janos Berecz, Reka Varnai, Zoltan Peterfi, Attila Schwarcz, Peter Csecsei

Summary: This study investigates the correlation between adverse reactions following booster vaccinations and subsequent antibody levels. It found that except for fever, adverse reactions after the booster dose were not positively correlated with antibody levels. Additionally, there were more symptomatic patients in the group receiving heterologous booster vaccine, and fever after the second dose was independently associated with a reduction in the likelihood of COVID-19 positivity after the booster dose.

Acute Phase Protein Orosomucoid (Alpha-1-Acid Glycoprotein) Predicts Delayed Cerebral Ischemia and 3-Month Unfavorable Outcome after Aneurysmal Subarachnoid Hemorrhage

Laszlo Zavori, Reka Varnai, Tihamer Molnar, Balazs Szirmay, Nelli Farkas, Attila Schwarcz, Peter Csecsei

Summary: This study found that early brain injury (EBI) after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH) affects the level of orosomucoid (ORM). Serum ORM levels can serve as a marker for assessing the extent of EBI-induced damage and are associated with delayed cerebral ischemia (DCI) and unfavorable long-term functional outcomes.

Summary: This study found that hypovitaminosis D is associated with an increased risk of relapse and death in pediatric cancer patients. Lower serum Vitamin D concentrations may lead to earlier cancer recurrence or fatal outcomes.

Migraine as a Disease Associated with Dysbiosis and Possible Therapy with Fecal Microbiota Transplantation

Agnes Kappeter, David Sipos, Adorjan Varga, Szabolcs Vigvari, Bernadett Halda-Kiss, Zoltan Peterfi

Summary: Migraine, a neurologic condition causing severe head pain, may be associated with changes in the gut microbiota, influenced by antibiotic use and other factors. Dysbiosis resulting from previous antibiotic therapy can lead to various diseases, including metabolic disorders, obesity, hematological malignancies, neurological or behavioral disorders, and migraine. Probiotics as a dietary supplement and fecal microbiota transplantation can help restore gut microbial balance and reduce the severity and frequency of migraines.

Screening and treatment of hepatitis C virus in prisons: 10 years of experience

Klara Werling, Mihaly Makara, Krisztina Nemesi, Gabor Horvath, Ferenc Schneider, Ildiko Bali, Judit Enyedi, Viktor Jancsik, Andras Kafony, Miklos Lesch, Bela Lombay, Zsofia Muller, Zsofia Ozsvar, Arpad Patai, Zoltan Peterfi, Margit Pusztay, Olga Szabo, Janos Szlavik, Tamas Toth, Marta Varga, Judit Gacs, Eszter Ujhelyi, Nemes Anna Nagy

Summary: This article summarizes the results of HCV screening carried out in Hungarian prisons from 2007 to 2017. The study found that HCV screening and treatment programs in prisons were highly effective, with a high proportion of positive cases. However, the number of patients receiving full treatment was relatively low. Patient education and collaboration between hepatologists and prison medical staff played an important role in the successful treatment outcomes.
