Summary: The study found that severe depressive symptoms decreased the cumulative incidence of ART initiation among PWID living with HIV, but had no significant impact on viral suppression. Future research should further investigate the antagonistic effect of depression on treatment uptake in order to improve HIV clinical outcomes and reduce transmission among PWID.

Summary: This study assessed the effectiveness of a strategy to eliminate hepatitis C among people who inject drugs in Hai Phong, Vietnam. The strategy includes community-based screening, hospital-based care, and prevention of reinfection. The findings suggest that this strategy is a promising approach to eliminate hepatitis C among people who inject drugs in low and middle-income countries.

Summary: This study aimed to identify and categorize usability issues in evidence-based psychosocial interventions (EBPIs) and propose design heuristics to address these issues. A total of 90 usability issues were reported in 13 projects, ranging from minor inconveniences to severe barriers. The study highlights the importance of using a usability evaluation lens to enhance the effective use and reach of EBPIs and implementation strategies.

Summary: The study reveals a growing trend of methamphetamine use among persons who inject heroin in Hai Phong, Vietnam, which peaked around mid-2010s and has since stabilized. The availability of effective treatment for methamphetamine disorders in Vietnam is limited, and community-based harm reduction programs may be a potential strategy to address the current epidemic.

Summary: In Tijuana, Mexico, where HCV prevalence among PWID is high, a combination of high-coverage harm reduction and hepatitis C virus treatment is found to be the most cost-effective strategy to achieve the goal of HCV incidence elimination. Modeling studies show that this strategy can reduce the disease burden while being economically feasible.

Summary: The study found that stigma towards people who inject drugs seems to focus more on their ability to be self-reliant rather than their drug use itself. Participants interpreted the stigma directed at them in terms of poverty rather than drug use. Due to lack of support, some individuals engage in illegal income-generating activities to pursue financial autonomy and regain social status.

Summary: Disclosure of one's HIV status may decrease depression and improve the quality of life among pregnant women living with HIV, however, the impact is mixed especially in areas with high prevalence of intimate partner violence. More research is needed to fully understand the association between disclosure, depressive symptoms, and partner violence among pregnant women living with HIV.

Summary: This study assessed the impact of two evidence-based alcohol reduction interventions on depression and anxiety symptoms among ART clients with hazardous alcohol use in Vietnam. While all three arms of the interventions led to decreases in depression and anxiety symptoms, there were no significant differences compared to standard of care. Interventions focusing on both alcohol and mental health are needed for more significant and sustainable improvements for PWH with hazardous alcohol use.

Summary: This study explores the effects of two evidence-based alcohol reduction counseling interventions on people with HIV in Vietnam who have hazardous alcohol use. The results show that both interventions are effective in improving readiness to change and alcohol abstinence self-efficacy. However, social support and alcohol abstinence stigma remain significant barriers to reducing alcohol use.

Summary: Mental health parity legislation is crucial for improving mental health outcomes. This study found that support for parity laws was highest for schizophrenia, PTSD, and major depression, while it was lowest for anorexia/bulimia. Support for parity was generally higher among females, more liberal legislators, legislators from the Northeast region, and those who had sought treatment for mental illness before.

Summary: Comorbid depression and heavy episodic drinking may pose challenges to treat all policies in sub-Saharan Africa, especially as the population of people with HIV ages. A study in Cameroon investigated the association between depressive symptoms and heavy episodic drinking among people with HIV receiving care. The study found that the association between depressive symptoms and heavy episodic drinking was significant across most of adulthood, with women showing a stronger association.

Summary: The study investigated the implementation and outcomes of a peer-led group lifestyle intervention for people with serious mental illness in three supportive housing agencies. Results showed differences in physical health outcomes and satisfaction with care across sites, possibly influenced by intervention fidelity, acceptance, and changes in healthcare services. Understanding and addressing site-specific factors are crucial for successful implementation of interventions in routine practice settings.
