Summary: Plastic is widely produced and consumed by humans, leading to the presence of microplastics and nanoplastics in various ecosystems. These particles can be found in soil, water, and air, and exposure to them mainly occurs through ingestion and inhalation. Studies have shown that exposure to these particles can cause respiratory tract damage and other health issues. However, there is limited data available on the toxicity and exposure levels of microplastics and nanoplastics.

Summary: This study investigated healthcare providers' attitudes and practices on emergency preparedness counseling for women of reproductive age in the United States. The results showed that while most providers recognized the importance of emergency preparedness, lack of confidence and time were barriers to providing counseling.

Summary: The study aims to evaluate the reproductive outcomes of male cancer survivors who underwent sperm freezing and assess the oncofertility counseling they received. The results show that a significant number of survivors attempted to conceive and achieved natural pregnancy, while others used their cryopreserved samples. Most survivors believed that the timing of oncofertility referrals was appropriate and considered fertility preservation important.

Summary: This study presents a new method for genomic population screening using a combined 432-gene test, which includes large carrier and health risk gene sequencing panels. The report summarizes the demographic data and analyses the patterns of genetic findings for the first 300 individuals tested in a primary care setting. The results show that 16% to 34% of the tested individuals have identified genetic health risks, and 86% are carriers for one or more recessive diseases. This research is an important step towards using exome or genome sequencing as a multi-purpose clinical screening tool.

Summary: Adolescents with congenital heart disease (CHD) lack knowledge about reproductive health related to their condition. This study investigated the proportion of adolescents with CHD receiving information on reproductive health, their level of knowledge, and factors associated with receiving information. The results showed that very few adolescents could recall receiving information about contraception and pregnancies, which may have implications for their future health and family planning.

Summary: The steep rise in global plastic production and discharge of plastic waste pose a threat to the ecosystem and human health due to the generation of particulate plastics and release of toxic chemical additives. However, only a small percentage of plastic additives have been characterized for their ecological concern, and information on their ecotoxicity remains incomplete. This review aims to provide detailed insights into the ecological impacts of plastic additives, which are crucial for restricting their use, finding eco-friendly alternatives, and establishing or revising guidelines by global health and environmental agencies.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the activity of the Breast Unit of the Policlinico Umberto I Hospital in Rome, Italy, and its compliance with guidelines. The results showed growing interest in oncofertility, but the demand for fertility preservation practices did not increase proportionally. This highlights the need for standardized counseling and a multidisciplinary medical team to support patients in decision-making.

Summary: Antimicrobial contamination and resistance is a global problem caused by the release of residual antimicrobials into the environment from medical and animal husbandry activities. The role of environmental factors in antimicrobial contamination and resistance is often underestimated, leading to ecological harm and the spread of resistance. This review explores the fate of antimicrobials and resistance in the environment, their impact on ecology and human health, and highlights environmental factors that exacerbate contamination and resistance. Removing antimicrobials and resistance genes in a timely manner will be essential for addressing antimicrobial contamination and resistance.

Summary: Unplanned urbanization in Dhaka City has led to a range of public health risks, including air pollution, inadequate water and sanitation, poor waste management, overcrowding, slums, and substandard housing conditions. Socioeconomic determinants such as poverty, income inequality, and limited access to healthcare further exacerbate the health risks faced by the urban population.

Summary: During modern era, various electronic devices using radiofrequency waves have become essential in our daily lives. The increasing risk of male infertility is a growing concern, as excessive exposure to non-ionizing radiation may cause genetic health effects on the male reproductive system. Studies on the genotoxic effects of radiofrequency (RF) waves have shown contradictory results regarding their impact on humans and animals. This review focuses on the genomic impact of RF-EMF on male infertility, discussing the potential damage to DNA, chromosomal aberrations, micronuclei formation, and oxidative stress caused by RF radiation exposure.

Summary: Research and public perception around microplastics currently face uncertainties, with levels of concern varying and existing evidence for effects not definitive. There is also a discrepancy between risk perception and the state of research, potentially influenced by limitations in scientific reporting and methods.

Summary: Environmental micro(nano)plastics pose a significant global pollution problem due to their widespread use and distribution. They have been found in various environmental media, especially marine systems, and their accumulation in organisms or humans can lead to negative impacts on metabolism, immune function, and health. Additionally, micro(nano)plastics can adsorb other pollutants, exacerbating the adverse effects on animal and human health. Further research is needed to fully understand the risks and impacts of micro(nano)plastics, and efforts should be made to reduce plastic waste and minimize their negative impact.

Summary: A study conducted in mangrove wetlands in South China revealed the presence of high-risk antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) and their geographic distribution patterns. The study also found that a higher number of connections in the network of high-risk ARGs resulted in increased health risks. Geographic distance and mobile genetic elements (MGEs) were identified as influential factors affecting the distribution of ARGs, and both ARGs and MGEs contributed significantly to the health risk profiles in mangrove ecosystems.

Summary: This study evaluates the prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 RNA in wastewater, sludge, and biosolids, and assesses the environmental, ecological, and health risks associated with reusing these environmental materials. The findings suggest that current treatment systems are inefficient in inactivating and removing the novel virus, raising concerns about potential health risks for wastewater workers and the general population.
