Summary: In smart grids, consumers can participate in demand response programs to reduce household power consumption during peak hours. However, utility companies face challenges in implementing these programs due to their negative impact on user comfort. This article uses neural networks and clustering algorithms to analyze power signatures of appliances and identify different operational modes. By studying washing machines and dishwashers, the analysis reveals distinct working programs based on energy consumption and duration, providing insights for improving demand response programs and reducing overall energy usage by promoting lighter operation modes.

Summary: This study examines the competition between a brick-and-mortar retailer and an online retailer in an experience goods market, focusing on a national-brand product sold by both retailers. The research explores how the brick-and-mortar retailer counteracts showrooming behavior through the introduction of a store brand and customized product variety, taking into account consumer heterogeneities and taste sensitivities towards different product brands. The findings indicate that the brick-and-mortar retailer prefers to increase store-brand product variety under certain conditions, such as when the national brand has less brand advantage or product customization is less costly.

Summary: This study aims to develop and test a motives-mass customization (MC) capability-performance model, finding that instrumental, relational, and moral motives positively impact both product-oriented and service-oriented MC capabilities. The study also reveals that MC capabilities partially mediate the impacts of motives on operational, market, environmental, and economic performances.

Summary: The profitability of manufacturers in multi-variant production is challenged by increasing customer requirements and volatile supply chains. Dynamic pricing, where customers can choose delivery time and price based on preferences, is proposed as a potential solution to balance demand during peak times. This paper presents a dynamic pricing approach using an actor-critic reinforcement learning agent in combination with a production simulation model applied in the automation technology industry.
