Summary: Novel lignans and quinic acids were isolated from Zanthoxylum nitidum var. tomentosum and their structures were confirmed. These compounds showed inhibitory effects on LPS-induced NO production, with compound 2 exhibiting the most significant activity. The mechanism of action of compound 2 in reducing neuroinflammation was elucidated through NLRP3/caspase1 signaling pathways.

Summary: This study investigated the bioactive compounds isolated from the roots of Zanthoxylum nitidum and found that two compounds showed antibacterial activity against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). These compounds exhibited synergistic action with ampicillin, reducing the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) significantly, and had the ability to destroy bacterial biofilm when combined with ampicillin. In vitro, the combination treatment showed a strong scavenging effect on planktonic bacteria, and in vivo, it effectively cleared skin infection in a wound infection model. The investigation supported the traditional use of Z. nitidum in treating bacterial infections and may provide new natural products for the treatment of drug-resistant bacteria.

Summary: Seven previously undescribed tetrahydrofuran lignans with different configurations and unusual isopentenyl substitutions, along with 14 known lignans, were isolated from Zanthoxylum nitidum. Compound 4, an uncommon naturally occurring furan-core lignan, was derived from tetrahydrofuran aromatization. The study showed that compound 3 exhibited potent antiproliferative activity in cancer cells, including osimertinib-resistant lung cancer cells, by downregulating the activation of certain signaling pathways.

Summary: This study provides transcriptomic resources for Chinese Dao-di herb Zanthoxylum nitidum through SMRT sequencing technology. A total of 16,163 transcripts were obtained, with 88% successfully annotated. Additionally, 6,255 long non-coding RNAs and 22,780 simple sequence repeats were identified. Out of 100 randomly selected primer pairs, 36 were verified as positive, with 20 showing polymorphism. These findings enrich the genetic resources of Z. nitidum, facilitating future research on relevant topics.
