Summary: The study found that silver nanoparticles have toxic effects on the submandibular salivary glands, but vitamin E as a natural antioxidant can mitigate this toxicity. Vitamin E can combat the cytotoxic effect caused by silver nanoparticles by improving antioxidant capacity. Further research with other immunohistochemical markers is needed to confirm these findings.

Summary: This method provides a step-by-step correlative imaging approach to investigate plasmonic NPs of different aggregation states in single cells. By using dark-field microscopy, fluorescence microscopy, and scanning electron microscopy, the clustering states of SNAs in a single cell can be efficiently distinguished and tracked in real time within 20 seconds. The entire procedure can be completed in 3-5 days and requires standard imaging and data analysis skills and equipment.

Summary: This study investigates a newly synthesized silver cluster assembled material and demonstrates the correlation between its structure and properties, showing how a multifunctional surface protecting ligand is strategically attached to enhance solubility, structural stability, and charge transfer mechanism. The material exhibits high structural stability, sustainable photoresponsive character, and unprecedented water solubility, making it suitable for biomedical imaging applications. The material's ability to mimic blood vessels at a depth of approximately 3 mm inside chicken breast tissue was confirmed by measured photoacoustic signal strength.

Summary: This study demonstrated the use of differently shaped silver nanoparticles for the synthesis of gold nanoclusters with small capping ligands. The silver nanoparticles played dual roles in the formation of Au NCs, acting as reducing agents for gold ions and attracting capping ligands to the nanoparticle surface. The morphologies of the silver nanoparticles had an influence on the synthesis of Au NCs, with quasi-spherical AgNPs and silver nanoplates showing excellent results.

Summary: This study developed a new method for synthesizing polymer-coated silver nanoparticles, which can stably coat polymer on the surface of silver nanoparticles by using functional polymer and disulfide-containing anchoring groups. The polymer layer can achieve fluorescence enhancement and effectively suppress fluorescence quenching, making it a promising platform for highly sensitive medical diagnostic biosensing.

Summary: The interaction between single emitters and plasmonic structures can enhance optical properties but also causes distortion. By studying axially defocused images, the distortion can be explored and the precise positions of emitters can be retrieved, leading to improved localization accuracy.

Summary: Saliva production and secretion are essential functions of the salivary glands, with multiple functions including moistening, digestion, mineralization, lubrication, and mucosal protection. Saliva undergoes dynamic changes in its chemical and physical properties during physiological and pathophysiological processes. The central nervous system regulates salivary secretion and function through various neurotransmitters and neuroreceptors. Salivary glands play a crucial role in innate and adaptive immunity and protection, and saliva contains potential biomarkers for monitoring and predicting health and disease in clinical practice and precision medicine.

Summary: The study focuses on the kinetics of laser-induced nanowelding of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs), with an observation that laser illumination leads to the formation of higher-order structures of AgNPs. An analytical model based on simple polymerization was developed to predict and understand the dynamics, and experimental verification was conducted by varying laser power and AgNP concentration. The merging of assemblies and diffusion-limited kinetics of laser-induced assembling were taken into account for improved modeling, and the asynchronous blinking behaviors of different regions within formed structures were observed.

Summary: In this study, a thin and robust coating based on calixarene-diazonium salts was developed to maintain the anisotropic structure of silver nanoplates, resulting in increased lifetime and stability. This coated silver nanoplates were then used for the detection of rabbit immunoglobulin G and Anti-SARS-CoV-2 IgG, achieving a low limit of detection and successful detection in human plasma. Additionally, the wide range of colors provided by the silver nanoplates allowed for the design of a multicolor multiplex assay for simultaneous detection of multiple analytes.

Summary: This study introduces a novel approach to enhance electromagnetic fields interaction and reduce photoluminescence (PL) lifetime in plasmon-enhanced fluorescence. By fabricating gold (Au) nanohole arrays (ANA) decorated with ring-shaped silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) on a silicon-dioxide (SiO2)/silver (Ag) substrate, the surface plasmon resonance coupling and PL reactions are investigated. The proposed substrate shows a remarkable enhancement of PL intensity and a reduction in PL lifetime. The findings demonstrate the potential of using ANAs decorated with ring-shaped AgNPs in biosensing, imaging, and photonics.

Summary: The authors report a mechanism by which mitotically quiescent proximal tubular epithelial cells eliminate gold nanoparticles from the kidneys. This mechanism involves squeezing balloon-like extrusions through microvilli, transporting gold-containing endocytic vesicles along with organelles into the extrusions, and pinching the extrusions off the membranes into the lumen. This organelle-extrusion mechanism represents a new route for nanoparticle elimination.

Summary: The elevated GSH level in solid tumors is used as a major characteristic for GSH-responsive nanoparticles to enhance targeting efficiency. However, the effect of hepatic GSH efflux on the tumor targeting of these nanoparticles is still largely unknown. Our study found that depletion of hepatic GSH enhanced the tumor targeting of GSH-responsive nanoparticles.
