Summary: Guizhi Fuling decoction (GZFL decoction) has a long history in treating endometriosis, but its exact mechanism remains unclear. This study explored the mechanism of GZFL decoction in treating endometriosis-associated pain. The results showed that GZFL decoction could reduce the volume of lesions, suppress inflammation, and decrease the sensitivity to pain in endometriosis rat models through inhibiting the PI3K/Akt pathway.

Summary: This study investigated the mechanism of Guizhi Fuling decoction in treating endometriosis-associated pain through system pharmacology and pharmacodynamic approaches. The results showed that the decoction could reduce lesion volume, suppress inflammation, and alleviate pain sensitivity by inhibiting the PI3K/Akt pathway.

Summary: Fibrous dysplasia (FD) is a rare non-inherited bone disease caused by a somatic gain-of-function mutation of the GNAS gene. The disease can manifest as a single FD lesion or with extraskeletal features, known as McCune-Albright Syndrome (MAS). Pain is a prominent and challenging aspect of FD/MAS, due to the heterogeneous nature of the disease, variable pain phenotypes, lack of pain mechanism studies, and limited validated analgesic strategies. Current pharmacotherapies, such as bisphosphonates and denosumab, are used to manage skeletal disease activity and pain in FD/MAS. However, there is a need for further research and randomized control trials to identify effective pain treatments and explore new pain pathways in this rare bone disease.

Summary: This study aims to evaluate the effects of pharmacological interventions on pain and sedation management in newborn infants undergoing therapeutic hypothermia. However, no studies that meet the inclusion criteria were found, so there is no evidence to recommend or refute the use of pharmacological interventions.

Summary: This review systematically synthesized current evidence on non-pharmacological interventions to manage pain in people living with dementia. Various interventions were found to have a positive impact on pain, but most of them were only evaluated once, and the studies had similar sample characteristics and environment. More research with larger sample sizes, diverse populations, and rigorous designs are needed to validate the results.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of three intervention methods for pediatric venipuncture. The results showed that all three interventions can decrease children's pain during venipuncture. Additionally, the distraction group had lower salivary cortisol levels compared to the combined group. No significant differences were observed among the three groups in self-reported pain, parent-reported pain, and observer-reported pain.

Summary: This narrative review summarizes non-pharmacological interventions for pain management in hemodialysis patients, assesses their potential benefits and limitations, and highlights the need for further research. The existing evidence supports the potential benefits of interventions such as acupuncture, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and relaxation techniques in managing pain and improving the well-being of hemodialysis patients. However, more research is needed to confirm their effectiveness, establish implementation best practices, and assess long-term impact on patient outcomes.

Summary: This overview of systematic reviews synthesizes current evidence on the efficacy and safety of non-pharmacological interventions for preventing and treating pain in newborn infants. The analysis included 29 reviews and found that facilitated tucking, kangaroo care, sweet solutions, and familiar odour were effective and safe in reducing pain from medical procedures in neonates. However, sucrose alone was less effective than local anaesthesia or a combination of the two during circumcision. Further research is needed to identify the best non-pharmacological approaches for pain in neonates.

Summary: Endometriosis is a chronic inflammatory disease that causes bothersome symptoms and long-term systemic impacts. It is characterized by the presence of endometrial-like tissue outside the uterus, leading to menstrual disorders, chronic pelvic pain, and infertility. The disease can also spread to extra-pelvic sites and cause systemic effects such as metabolic disorder, immune dysregulation, and cardiovascular diseases.

Summary: Endometriosis patients often have comorbid mental disorders, potentially requiring psychological treatment. Neuroimaging studies on endometriosis patients show that brain regions related to pain processing as well as emotion, cognition, self-regulation, and reward may constitute the "endometriosis brain." However, it is unclear whether the observed neurobiological changes are caused by chronic pain, mental comorbidities, or endometriosis itself.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the optimal timing of vaginal dinoprostone administration before office hysteroscopy in nulliparous women. The results showed that administering dinoprostone vaginally 12 hours before the procedure was more effective in reducing pain during hysteroscopy compared to administering it 3 hours before. It also resulted in easier hysteroscope insertion, shorter procedure duration, and higher patient satisfaction.
