The negative impact of endocrine-disrupting pesticides on human fertility is now a key issue in reproductive health. There are much fewer literature data about the impact of pesticide exposure on women than on men and very few studies of women participating in an in vitro fertilization (IVF) programme. In the present review, we found that (1) various pesticides with an endocrine-disrupting action are associated with poor oocyte maturation and competency, embryonic defects and poor IVF outcomes, and (2) some pesticide compounds are linked to specific causes of female infertility, such as premature ovarian insufficiency, polycystic ovarian syndrome, and endometriosis. IVF participants living in agricultural regions should be informed about the fertility decline, low ongoing pregnancy rates, and elevated risk of miscarriage associated with exposure to high doses of pesticides.

Ulipristal acetate use in adenomyosis: A randomized controlled trial

Perrine Capmas, Jean-Luc Brun, Guillaume Legendre, Martin Koskas, Philippe Merviel, Herve Fernandez

Summary: This study evaluated the effect of UPA on abnormal uterine bleeding due to adenomyosis, showing a significantly higher rate of women with PBAC score under 75 in the UPA group compared to the placebo group after 28 days of treatment, along with a significant reduction in pain for the UPA group. At 6 months, there was no significant difference in outcomes between the two groups, indicating that UPA could be a potential option for treating this condition.

Claire de Moreuil, Jacob Hannigsberg, Juliette Chauvet, Annabelle Remoue, Christophe Tremouilhac, Philippe Merviel, Charles Bellot, Brigitte Pan Petesch, Emmanuelle Le Moigne, Karine Lacut, Pascale Marcorelles

Summary: Placental abruption cases with stillbirth or neonatal death accounted for 24.4%, with a higher prevalence of pre-eclampsia and intrauterine growth restriction. Cases were associated with more autoimmune diseases, less pre-eclampsia, and more preterm deliveries compared to controls.

Characterizing environmental geographic inequalities using an integrated exposure assessment

Julien Caudeville, Corentin Regrain, Frederic Tognet, Roseline Bonnard, Mohammed Guedda, Celine Brochot, Maxime Beauchamp, Laurent Letinois, Laure Malherbe, Fabrice Marliere, Francois Lestremau, Karen Chardon, Veronique Bach, Florence Anna Zeman

Summary: This paper presents the methodological framework developed by INERIS for assessing human exposure, based on environmental pollution data and spatial analysis methods. This integrated approach helps to identify overexposed populations and provides data for evaluating the relationship between health and the environment.

Spatio-temporal assessment of pregnant women exposure to chlorpyrifos at a regional scale

Corentin Regrain, Florence Anna Zeman, Mohammed Guedda, Karen Chardon, Veronique Bach, Celine Brochot, Roseline Bonnard, Frederic Tognet, Laure Malherbe, Laurent Letinois, Emmanuelle Boulvert, Fabrice Marliere, Francois Lestremau, Julien Caudeville

Summary: This study used an integrated exposure assessment approach to evaluate the exposure of pregnant women to chlorpyrifos in Picardy at a regional scale, finding that ingestion route was the main contributor to chlorpyrifos exposure. The study demonstrated the feasibility of comparing modeled predictions with biomonitoring data.

Progesterone levels on the human chorionic gonadotropin trigger day affect the pregnancy rates for embryos transferred at different stages of development in both general and selected IVF/ICSI populations

P. Merviel, S. Bouee, A. S. Jacamon, J. J. Chabaud, M. T. Le Martelot, S. Roche, C. Rince, H. Drapier, A. Perrin, D. Beauvillard

Summary: The study found that blastocyst transfers were associated with higher clinical pregnancy and birth rates than cleaved embryo transfers in the general population but not in a selected population. Serum progesterone levels on the eve of the trigger day and on the day itself were predictive of the likelihood of pregnancy.

Low-Level Radiofrequency Exposure Induces Vasoconstriction in Rats

Thi Cuc Mai, Anne Braun, Veronique Bach, Amandine Pelletier, Rene de Seze

Summary: Recent studies have shown that rodents exposed to low-intensity radiofrequency (RF) exhibit vasoconstriction responses similar to those in cold conditions, suggesting that RF exposure triggers physiological events associated with responses to cold in rats. RF exposure also leads to increased plasma concentrations of noradrenaline and fatty acids, similar to the response to cold stimuli.

Surgical techniques for the removal of Essure(R) microinserts: a literature review on current practice

G. Chene, E. Cerruto, P. Merviel, A. Agostini, P. Crochet, G. Giraudet, P. Capmas, H. Fernandez, O. Graesslin

Summary: The study evaluated different techniques for Essure(R) microinserts removal and assessed the risk of device fracture and intra- and post-operative complications. The most frequent surgical techniques were laparoscopic salpingectomy (LS), laparoscopic cornuectomy (LC), and laparoscopic or vaginal hysterectomy (LH, VH) with en-bloc salpingectomy. Complications were more severe and frequent with hysterectomy compared to the LC and LS procedures.

Programming of intestinal homeostasis in male rat offspring after maternal exposure to chlorpyrifos and/or to a high fat diet

Marion Guibourdenche, Hiba El Khayat El Sabbouri, Narimane Djekkoun, Hafida Khorsi-Cauet, Veronique Bach, Pauline M. Anton, Jerome Gay-Queheillard

Summary: Maternal exposure to pesticide or a high fat diet may have preliminary impacts on offspring's gut barrier function, but co-exposure to both factors did not exacerbate the effects observed with each factor separately.

Should intrauterine inseminations still be proposed in cases of unexplained infertility? Retrospective study and literature review

Philippe Merviel, Marion Labarre, Pandora James, Sarah Bouee, Jean-Jacques Chabaud, Sylvie Roche, Rosalie Cabry, Florence Scheffler, Emmanuelle Lourdel, Moncef Benkhalifa, Henri Copin, Hortense Drapier, Damien Beauvillard

Summary: This study compares the clinical pregnancy rate in cases of unexplained infertility with intrauterine insemination (IUI) and in vitro fertilization/intracytoplasmic sperm injection (IVF/ICSI). The results show that IVF/ICSI has higher pregnancy rates, especially in women with secondary unexplained infertility, in the first two cycles, and in women receiving a transfer of two embryos. The study recommends IVF/ICSI treatment for unexplained infertility.

The first ethanol sclerotherapy of an accessory cavitated uterine mass

Philippe Merviel, Caroline Lelievre, Tatiana Cambier, Isabelle Thomas-Kergastel, Pierre-Francois Dupre

Summary: ACUM is a rare and underdiagnosed pathology, usually treated with radical surgery which can result in uterine scarring. Ethanol sclerotherapy, mimicking the treatment of recurrent endometrioma, offers a solution that avoids uterine scarring and potential risks, enabling rapid pregnancy achievement.
