Summary: This study evaluated the safety of sulfur hexafluoride microbubbles as an ultrasound contrast agent in a large group of patients undergoing routine contrast-enhanced ultrasound. The frequency of adverse events was found to be very low, with severe reactions being rare. These findings confirm the appropriateness of sulfur hexafluoride microbubbles for routine contrast-enhanced ultrasound applications.

Summary: This study explores the use of intraoperative contrast-enhanced ultrasound (Io-CEUS) in minimally invasive thoracic surgery to visualize and characterize solitary pulmonary nodules (SPNs). The results show that Io-CEUS is technically feasible and can accurately detect and characterize SPNs. This technology has the potential to influence intraoperative decisions and the extent of lung resection in the future.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the association between contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) findings and kidney function. CEUS examinations were conducted on 30 living kidney donors, and various perfusion parameters were analyzed. The results showed that mean signal intensity (MeanLin) had a significant correlation with kidney function, especially in normal-weight individuals. These findings suggest that CEUS signal intensity may be influenced by body mass index (BMI).

Summary: In well-selected patients undergoing active surveillance, contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) imaging is a safe and effective strategy for monitoring small renal masses (SRM). The majority of SRMs showed no change in enhancement pattern over time, and there was no association between enhancement pattern and radiological progression or SRM size. Delayed intervention was performed in 27.2% of patients, who had significantly larger SRM size and growth rate compared to those continuing active surveillance.

Summary: This study investigated the potential of CEUS as a diagnostic tool in differentiating between aseptic and infected upper-limb non-unions. The results showed that CEUS can reliably distinguish between these two conditions, with a sensitivity of 80% and specificity of 94.3% for detecting infected non-unions.

Summary: A generalized mathematical framework called pulse inversion spectral deconvolution (PISD) for contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) imaging is introduced in this article. The PISD approach is based on Gaussian derivative functions (GDFs) and uses PISD pulses to filter backscattered ultrasound (US) data for isolating nonlinear (NL) microbubble (MB) signals. The study evaluates the role of wide-beam transmit aperture size in CEUS imaging and quantifies image enhancement using a contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR). In vivo data collected in rats demonstrates that PISD-based CEUS imaging improves vascular visualization compared to the NL imaging strategy.

Summary: This study assessed the imaging ability of CE-EBUS in vitro and in vivo and found that CE-EBUS can produce contrast imaging comparable to commercial pre-clinical and clinical ultrasound systems. CE-EBUS has the potential for clinical characterization of mediastinal lymph nodes in lung cancer patients.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of anti-PD-1/PD-L1 antibody therapy in HCC patients by assessing the hyper-enhanced rim phenomenon on Sonazoid-CEUS Kupffer phase images. The results showed that HCC patients with hyper-enhanced rim+ nodules had shorter progression-free survival (PFS), shorter time to nodule progression (TTnP), and lower disease control rate compared to those with hyper-enhanced rim- nodules.

Summary: This study examines the application of deep neural networks in automated focal liver lesion diagnosis using contrast enhanced ultrasound imaging. By comparing custom DNN designs with state-of-the-art architectures, a hard-voting classification scheme was formulated to enhance model effectiveness. Results show significant improvement in accuracy for different types of liver lesions.
