Summary: Disparities in HbA(1c) testing frequency were observed primarily based on health care-related factors, which were associated with diabetes outcomes in type 1 diabetes. Higher frequency of HbA(1c) testing was linked to lower HbA(1c) levels and decreased odds of microvascular complications over time. However, these associations were attenuated after adjusting for HbA(1c) testing correlates.

Summary: This study investigated the association between uric acid levels and blood pressure and arterial stiffness in adolescents and young adults with type 1 diabetes. The results showed no significant relationship between uric acid and blood pressure or arterial stiffness in these patients. These findings support the results of clinical trials in older adults with diabetes, which show that lowering uric acid levels does not improve cardiovascular health.

Summary: This study aimed to describe the worries and coping strategies of youth with type 1 diabetes across different developmental stages. The study identified four major themes of worries, including managing blood glucose, self-efficacy for diabetes management, interpersonal relationships, and lifestyle impact. The coping strategies fell into three major themes, which were attempts to change source of worry, attempts to change reactions to worry, and attempts to orient away from the worry. These worries and coping strategies have important implications for youth's daily activities and future plans.

Summary: This study compared the changes in arterial stiffness and heart rate variability (HRV) among different types of diabetes and identified the risk factors associated with the worsening of arterial stiffness and HRV. The results showed that participants with type 2 diabetes had greater arterial stiffness and more abnormalities in HRV compared to those with type 1 diabetes, and these differences worsened over time. Risk factors for the worsening of arterial stiffness and HRV in both types of diabetes included higher blood pressure, hemoglobin A(1c), waist circumference, triglycerides, and longer duration of diabetes.

Summary: This is a population-based prospective cohort study on diabetic retinopathy (DR) in youth-onset diabetes (type 1 and type 2). The study found that DR is highly prevalent in both types of diabetes, and it is associated with factors such as age, blood glucose, and blood pressure. The study suggests that tight glucose and blood pressure management may help mitigate the development and progression of DR in youth-onset diabetes.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between perceived stress, quality of life (QoL), general self-efficacy, and social support among women with previous gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). The findings suggest that perceived stress negatively impacts QoL, but this effect can be mediated by better social support or general self-efficacy. Healthcare providers should focus on enhancing self-efficacy and social support to improve QoL and reduce the negative impact of perceived stress on women with previous GDM.

Summary: Parent-child relationship quality plays a significant role in impacting diabetes self-management among adolescents with type 1 diabetes, mediating the associations between perceived stress and collaboration with parents, diabetes care activities, and diabetes communication. It suggests that family-based interventions and clinical practice should consider the quality of parent-child relationship as an important element to improve diabetes self-management in this population.

Summary: This study investigated specific domains of diabetes distress and associated factors among adolescents with type 1 diabetes in China, finding that adolescents experienced the highest levels of distress in regimen-related and physician-related domains. Older age, female gender, more diabetes problem-solving, and higher perceived stress were associated with higher regimen-related distress.

Summary: One in five rural Chinese postpartum women with a history of GDM were found to have increased blood pressure. Biological and sociocultural factors were associated with increased postpartum blood pressure; women with lower general self-efficacy were more likely to have increased blood pressure. Disseminating knowledge about the high risk of developing increased blood pressure among women with prior GDM in rural China is indicated.

Summary: This study aimed to compare factors affecting mothers' satisfaction with care in the Emergency Department (ED) for children with autistic spectrum disorder (ASD) and children without ASD. The results showed that mothers of children with ASD expressed lower satisfaction, especially in terms of waiting times, attentiveness and responsiveness of nurses, coordination and cooperation among ED staff, and the overall organization of work in the ED. Communication difficulties in children predicted mothers' satisfaction with care.
