Therefore, ensuring adequate staffing and minimizing workload are crucial in preventing nurse burnout.

Summary: This article reviews recent developments in research on job-related distress and proposes a shift from the traditional concept of burnout to occupational depression when addressing job-related distress. A new assessment tool, the Occupational Depression Inventory, is introduced to specifically assess depressive symptoms attributed to work. The advantages of this paradigm shift are highlighted in closing the paper.

Summary: This study conducted a cross-sectional survey among 879 teachers in the Jazan region, Saudi Arabia to examine the prevalence and determinants of burnout during the COVID-19 pandemic. The results showed that most teachers experienced burnout symptoms, such as emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and low personal accomplishment. The study suggests increasing incentives, early detection, and improving the work environment to mitigate the consequences of burnout.

Key sociodemographic and occupational factors, such as gender, shift work, long working hours, and changes in shift time and hours, are associated with personal and work-related burnout. Patient-related burnout is higher among those who are single, nurses, non-Citizens, have fewer years of experience, and have been infected by COVID-19 and quarantined.
