Summary: This study reported a novel phosphor, Ho3+/Yb3+-doped SrBi4Ti4O15 ceramics, which exhibited strong UC luminescence and obvious PC reaction. The UC luminescence could be reversibly regulated by alternating visible light irradiation and thermal stimulus. The modulation process tightly relied on the irradiation time and thermal treatment processes, with excellent reproducibility. Additionally, luminescence manipulation by electric field was also explored as an alternative method.

Summary: GdF3 and NaGdF4 nano/submicro-crystals were selectively synthesized using a simple hydrothermal method. By adjusting the amounts of sodium citrate added in the precursor solutions, GdF3 and NaGdF4 nano/submicro-particles with different upconversion emission colors and luminescent decay lifetimes can be controllably synthesized. NaGdF4 nano/submicro-spheres showed decreasing particle sizes with increasing Na(3)Cit dosages.

Summary: Erbium upconversion photoluminescence from sol-gel derived barium titanate xerogel structures on different substrates was studied. The intensity of erbium UC PL can be increased by adding a layer of strontium titanate or codoping with erbium and ytterbium. Tuning of the cavity mode was achieved by assembling a multilayer microcavity structure.

Summary: Ho3+ (0.5, 1.0 mol%) / Yb3+ (5.0 mol%) co-doped Strontium Yttrium Fluoride upconversion nanophosphors were prepared by wet chemical method. Structural and morphological analysis revealed the formation of single-phase Sr2YF7 nanocrystals. Under 980 nm laser excitation, efficient energy transfer from Yb3+ to Ho3+ was observed in the Sr2YF7 host matrix, demonstrating successful upconversion luminescence.

Summary: The Yb3+-Ho3+ co-doped Y18W4O39 (YW) phosphors were prepared using a solid-state reaction method and their upconversion (UC) luminescence was investigated for applications in optical thermometers. The samples were found to be single-phase based on XRD patterns. The absorption peaks of the doping ions were observed in the diffuse reflection spectra. Under 980 nm light excitation, green and red emissions from Ho3+ were observed, with the optimal concentration of Ho3+ determined to be 0.5 mol%. The temperature-quenching spectra showed that both the green and red emissions were highly sensitive to temperature, indicating potential applications in optical temperature sensing.

Summary: Lanthanide-doped perovskite materials have been attracting attention for their abundant 4f energy levels, and in this study, holmium and ytterbium co-doped Cs2Ag0.4Na0.6In0.9Bi0.1Cl6 microcrystals were synthesized for the first time. The microcrystals exhibit efficient dual-mode photoluminescence from the host and rare-earth ions. The yellow-white emission is a combination of down-conversion photoluminescence from self-trapped excitons and energy level leap emission from the rare-earth ions, while the green emission is an up-conversion photoluminescence from Ho3+. Time-resolved spectroscopy analysis reveals energy transfer between self-trapped excitons and rare-earth ions in the down-conversion process, and temperature measurement performance is demonstrated.

Summary: This paper investigates the optical properties and potential of YOF:Ho3+/Yb3+ phosphor nanoparticles synthesized by the Pechini sol-gel method as thermal sensors. The results show that visible UC emission can be achieved using 980 nm excitation, and luminescence in the NIR region is also observed. By calculating the fluorescence intensity ratio based on thermally non-coupled levels, a thermal sensitivity of 0.32 at 300 K is obtained for the YOF material.
