Summary: The study found that the HUB and ultrasonic coagulating shears showed similar operation times, postoperative surgical results, and morbidity in open thyroidectomy. However, the total amount of bleeding was significantly less in the HUB group. Overall, HUB demonstrated comparable efficacy and safety to ultrasonic coagulating shears in thyroid surgery.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the sealing quality of swine small intestine using different laparoscopic radiofrequency vessel sealing devices compared to golden standard closure technique. Results showed that RFVS-1 and RFVS-3 devices provided suitable intestinal sealing, while HS and RFVS-2 should not be considered for intestinal sealing.

Summary: This study compared the haemostatic efficiency, operative time, and overall performance of the electrothermal bipolar vessel sealing (EBVS) system with conventional suturing in abdominal hysterectomy. The results showed that the vessel sealing group had significantly reduced mean operative time and intra-operative blood loss, as well as lower postoperative pain scores and shorter hospital stay. Therefore, the vessel sealing system provides superior surgical results with minimal blood loss and reduced morbidity.

Summary: This study aims to compare conventional bipolar electrosurgery with advanced bipolar vessel sealing (ABVS) devices in total laparoscopic hysterectomy (TLH). The systematic review found that the use of ABVS devices can reduce total blood loss and operative time, but the observed differences seem clinically irrelevant.

Summary: This study compared the burst pressure, number of activations, and histological evaluation of swine small intestinal loops transected by different devices. The results showed that Caiman12 and Ligasure Atlas had comparable mechanical capabilities and intestinal closure as stapler, but Caiman12 required only one activation to complete the transection.

Summary: This paper extensively analyzes the DC electrothermal behavior of InGaP/GaAs HBT test devices and arrays for power amplifier output stages using an efficient simulation approach. The study includes thermal effects, power-temperature feedback, and nonlinear thermal effects at high temperatures. Insights are provided on the thermally-induced distortion in I-V curves for test devices and the detrimental nonuniform operation of arrays, offering useful guidelines for designers in terms of layout and choice of ballasting strategy.

Summary: An experimental study was conducted to evaluate the effects of using radiofrequency vessel sealing devices and modified cyanoacrylate reinforcement on burst pressure values in swine jejunal loops. The results showed that reinforcement with the modified cyanoacrylate improved burst pressure values and performance of the devices in intestinal thermofusion.

Summary: This study aimed to compare intraoperative inflammatory response and short-term surgical outcomes among different energy-based devices in laparoscopic distal gastrectomy. The study found that patients who used advanced bipolar (BP) energy-based device had lower postoperative CRP levels and intraoperative blood loss, suggesting better sealing function and less tissue thermal damage.

Summary: This study compared the outcomes of vacuum sealing drainage (VSD) and conventional drainage in the treatment of closed calcaneal fracture. The results showed that VSD was superior to conventional drainage in terms of drainage volume, duration, wound drying time, skin fold time, wound healing time, and VAS scores at day 3 postoperatively. VSD also had fewer wound complications and higher wound healing grade.

Summary: This study investigated the prevalence, incidence rate, and risk factors of medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ). The results showed that the overall prevalence and incidence rate of MRONJ were low but higher than previous studies. Poor oral conditions were found to be more closely associated with the development of MRONJ compared to other factors. Therefore, improving oral hygiene may be essential in preventing MRONJ.

Summary: The long-term functional and survival prognosis after major oncologic surgery in elderly patients is uncertain. This retrospective study investigated the association between age at surgery and the risk of postoperative bedridden status and mortality. Older age was associated with poorer functional outcomes and higher mortality among patients aged 65 years and older.
