Summary: This study aimed to describe the survival outcomes of underweight patients who underwent lung transplantation. The study found that underweight patients had similar hospital and intensive care unit stays compared to other patients, and there was no significant difference in mortality risk between underweight patients and patients with normal BMIs. Therefore, patients with BMIs of 13-17 kg/m(2) may be candidates for lung transplantation.

Summary: Pleuroparenchymal fibroelastosis (PPFE) is a rare condition characterized by fibrosis involving the pleura and the upper lobes. Lung transplantation (LT) is the treatment of choice for end-stage PPFE. This study reports the experience of a single center and compares it with existing evidence on the topic of LT for PPFE.

Summary: Transbronchial cryobiopsy is an effective diagnostic method for interstitial lung diseases, with an increasing diagnostic yield over time. However, it is associated with a risk of grade 4 bleeding at a rate of 11.8%.

Summary: This study reviewed the incidence of VTE post lung transplantation and identified risk factors such as the use of cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) and interruption of VTE prophylaxis. Measures to ensure consistent and uninterrupted prophylaxis may help decrease VTE incidence after lung transplantation.

Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed lung transplant recipients at a pediatric center from 2014 to 2022 and found that three out of nineteen recipients (15%) developed atrial arrhythmia. The occurrence of atrial arrhythmia occurred 9-10 days after lung transplantation, and only recipients older than 12 years old experienced this complication. Atrial arrhythmia did not affect hospital stay duration or short-term mortality. All recipients with atrial arrhythmia were discharged on medication, which was discontinued at 6 months for those without recurrence.

Summary: This retrospective study analyzed bronchoscopy findings and clinical outcomes during percutaneous dilation tracheostomy (PDT). Unexpected endotracheal or endobronchial masses were discovered in a significant proportion of patients with chronic respiratory failure during PDT, and a high rate of weaning failure was noted in these patients. Completing bronchoscopy during PDT may offer additional clinical benefits.

Summary: This study demonstrates the effectiveness of antibody-removal therapies (ART) in pediatric intestinal and multivisceral transplants with de novo donor-specific anti-HLA antibodies (dnDSA). ART was successful in removing DSA and preventing rejection even in the absence of clinical symptoms.

Summary: This retrospective study assessed the humoral response to mRNA vaccines in 167 HSCT recipients and identified factors affecting non-response. The study found that vaccination as early as 3 months post-HSCT showed promising results, with a majority achieving seroconversion after receiving up to four doses. Factors such as low B cell counts and ongoing immunosuppression with mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) hindered the vaccine response.

Summary: This pilot study evaluated the risks and feasibility of using one-lung ventilation (OLV) through a single-lumen endotracheal tube (SLT) during rigid bronchoscopy (RB) in patients with malignant airway stenosis. The study found that OLV using an SLT during RB could be a new treatment approach for endobronchial ablative procedures without increasing bronchoscopy-associated risks, allowing concurrent high-energy treatments.

Summary: Donor-derived Ureaplasma spp in lung transplant was associated with fatal hyperammonemia syndrome. Recipients of organs with Ureaplasma spp who received empiric therapy did not develop hyperammonemia syndrome. Screening lung donors for Ureaplasma spp might allow for targeted therapy to reduce risk for development of hyperammonemia syndrome.

Summary: The potential of Aspergillus galactomannan antigen titer (AGT) in serum and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) and serum titers of beta-D-glucan (BDG) in predicting invasive pulmonary aspergillosis (IPA) were investigated in lung transplantation recipients. The cutoff values for AGT were found to be 0.560 in serum and 0.600 in BALF, with sensitivities and specificities ranging from 50% to 85%, and AUCs ranging from 0.724 to 0.895. A lower cutoff value of 1.0 was suggested when IPA was highly suspicious. Serum and BALF AGT showed a correlation with a history of diabetes mellitus.
