Summary: This study aimed to produce structured lipids using Rhizopus oryzae lipase covalently immobilized in a low-cost material, leading to 38.8% medium-chain fatty acid incorporation with 5 reuses. In vivo effects of the produced lipids showed reductions in body weight gain, white adipose tissue weights, glucose and total cholesterol levels, and improvements in glucose tolerance. The SLs also exhibited antioxidant properties, reducing lipid peroxidation and preserving the activity of antioxidant enzymes.

Summary: Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) are potential therapeutic targets for metabolic diseases, and this study focuses on the design and synthesis of stilbene-based compounds as dual PPAR alpha/gamma partial agonists. The lead compound 5b showed promising effects in removing cholesterol from foam cells and improving lipid levels, insulin sensitivity, and glucose levels in an obesity mouse model.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of bevacizumab-functionalized docetaxel-loaded nanostructured lipid carriers (BVZ-NLC-DTX) against glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) using in vitro and in vivo models. The results showed that BVZ-NLC-DTX selectively increased the cytotoxicity of docetaxel in GBM cells and promoted cell death by apoptosis. In the in vivo experiment, BVZ-NLC-DTX significantly reduced tumor volume. Therefore, this study contributes to the development of more efficient nanocarriers for improving the efficacy of GBM drug treatment.

Summary: The combination of metformin and lycopene was found to improve insulin resistance and glucose tolerance in obese mice, reduce oxidative damage markers in blood and tissues, and increase the activity of antioxidant enzymes. This suggests that the combined use of metformin and lycopene may be a promising strategy for the treatment of diabetic complications.

Summary: Liposomes functionalized with cell-penetrating peptides are a promising strategy for delivering insulin through the nasal route. Hydrogel-based carriers made of hydroxyethylcellulose (HEC) possess desirable rheological properties and mucoadhesion for nasal administration. The incorporation of liposomes can enhance the drug retention, while the functionalization with peptides can affect the release rate of insulin.

Summary: This study used UHPLC-UV green chromatography to analyze the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities of Varronia curassavica, as well as its embryotoxicity in Zebrafish. The results showed that certain components in the leaves of V. curassavica exhibited good antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities, but also had some toxic effects on Zebrafish embryos.

Summary: Consuming flavonoid-rich foods can help regulate inflammation and oxidative stress, potentially preventing various pathologies. Dietary supplementation with citrus flavonoids, eriocitrin and eriodictyol, was found to inhibit periodontal inflammation in mice, leading to reduced oxidative damage and enhanced host defense.
